My daughter (no pics) will be attending LSU beginning fall '25.
She has been driving for a few years now, but not on interstates.
We will be taking a drive tomorrow morning from Metairie to campus.
She will be ok until shtf in BR.
What is a good exit to take prior to widening to four lanes and city traffic?
An extra 15-20 min or so is ok until she gets more experience and confidence.
TIA

Exit in Gonzales by the Tanger Outlet, then stay on Hwy 30 all the way to LSU. Easy drive.

Get off at College then take a right onto Perkins then left onto Stanford. You could also simply get off at Acadian and take a left. Acadian turns into Stanford on the other side of Perkins. She could also get off at Highway 30 in Gonzales which takes you straight onto campus.

Have her get off at Tanger Mall exit. Geax left for 25 miles and she on campus.
Avoid Baton Rouge completely. Be careful, don't speed. Speed traps in St Gabriel.

Turn left at the Highland Road exit and drive straight into campus. One of the most scenic drives past some of the most expensive houses in Baton Rouge.

Hwy 30 is the other option, but that takes you through chemical plants, farm land, crappy St. Gabriel area, more cow pastures, etc. I wouldn't want my 18 year old daughter breaking down or getting a flat on Hwy 30.

Thanks, y'all.
The responses were very helpful.
I expect that to change in a few hours.
The OT will not disappoint.
She's my baby girl.
We also have four stinking boys, whom I love, but it's not the same.

You have failed as a father in multiple ways:

(1) your daughter is about to go to college and you don’t trust her to drive on an interstate in a town less than 60 miles from home

(2) you’re asking strangers on an internet message board about driving directions to a school…. Less than 60 miles from your home

(3) your daughter has been driving for a “few years now” but not on interstates.

Congrats on stunting your daughters development with your constant helicopter parenting.

This is the way I’d go.

About to attend college and hasn't driven on an interstate?! Do freaking better and teach her to drive on an interstate before peer pressure does. Get her training on the interstate now for heavens sake or you will regret it if something happens because she freaks out.

Unbelievable

there’s no reason to shame him for this

If they live in Metairie, what’s the point of getting on the interstate to get somewhere? It’s not Baton Rouge where the interstate is the fastest route.

Yeah or could even take this exit then get on Burbank and drive all the way in.
