Assassin’s Creed: Shadows sold well and received generally positive reviews, but while it was a step in the right direction, it wasn’t quite the big win Ubisoft needed. Consumer trust has taken a hit in recent years due to excessive monetization, layoffs, and delayed releases. Still, signs are emerging that the studio is taking steps to restore the franchise’s former glory.

In an internal email, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced the formation of a ten-person transformation committee tasked with revitalizing the Assassin's Creed studio. Handpicked by Guillemot, the group is co-led by his son, Charlie Guillemot, and Ubisoft’s Chief Studios & Portfolio Officer, Marie-Sophie de Waubert. The committee has 100 days to develop a plan to improve game quality and refocus the studio's direction. With Ubisoft undergoing major changes due to its recent deal with Tencent, this initiative could mark a turning point for Assassin's Creed and the broader Ubisoft lineup.
Tencent move paying dividends already

Objectively good news. Shadows was. . .fine. Combat was fine. Stealth was way better than Valhalla and Odyssey. Side quests were far better than Valhalla's bullsit. Exploration was meh. Story and english voice acting was just horrendous.

Was super pretty.

Played with Yasuke once. Dude is a cheat code in combat, makes it not fun. Pretty much useless in everything else.

Overall was better than Valhalla, not as good as Oddysey or Origins. It was just fine. Not particularly good or great. Guessing they needed good or great.

Glad to see they recognize an issue, and are moving to correct. Good news.

I don't see where they mention the effing launcher. I essentially stopped playing some games because of the launcher and barely tolerate the RS launcher for RDR2.

Every time I think about an Ubisoft title, that launcher allows me to "Nope" right out.

Good to see a giant game company at least give more than lip service to improvement, though, so a half-hearted is the least I can do.

There's so many launchers I don't really give it thought anymore. My only real beef with the Ubisoft launcher is if I lock my computer and come back, it says it has no internet connection, and the only way to fix it, that I can see, is to log out and log back in again. I honestly don't get why that hasn't been remedied.

I guess it depends on the launcher. If I haven't played RDR2 in a while, I know I have to get my phone and authenticate and all that crap. But the game is worth it.

If the launcher is just another loading screen, it isn't a big deal.

Exactly. It definitely isn't customer/gamer focused.

I think 2 things will really help them.

1. Scale down the worlds. I personally don't mind the big maps, I recently picked up Odyssey again, level 62 with Alexios, trying to 100% the map, and there is so much I never knew was there. But after playing a scaled down version in Mirage, I can definitely see there being a market for a middle ground.

2. Get good writers. Like with most Ubisoft games, the experience is the game loop and the story is background if you're interested (looking at you, Division). I'm not too bothered with the present day stuff, but there is a large contingent that is into that and hate how convoluted it has become. I think we've learned in games, movies, TV, get your writing correct, your product becomes exponential better and more accepted.

Aside from being a nepo baby, can anyone explain how this dude is remotely qualified to co-lead this group?

Based on his LinkedIn, he worked for Owlient (which created free to play games) and he founded Unagi, which appears to be a studio producing web3 games?

Ubisoft is putting the future of this franchise in his hands?

Maybe hes like Rick Rubin, a vibes guy. I dont think it would be hard to turn the frachise around. UI is cluttered as frick, they gotta fix that. Every game has been mid since Black Flag.
