Seal holes. Get large caliber air rifle.

They are very difficult to eradicate. My neighbor hired an animal control guy to get rid of his, and the bastards just moved next door to my attic. He thinned a good many at least, but I’ve not had much success. The shoddy workmanship in a lot of newer homes seems to leave plenty of holes for entry and I haven’t found all of them yet.

Holes. they can chew really well.

Look by where your air conditioner line enters your soffit. They love the climb up that because their claws can easily hold on to foam pipe wrap. They will then use the portion of the hole already there and make it slightly bigger (a little bigger than a half dollar).

Once you find the hole you can put up a squirrel extruder. If they are definitely coming up your pipe wrap, you can also wrap that with metal flashing so they don't have anything to climb.

Squirrel Extruder:

If you poison, it needs to be soon. They normally start having another litter at the end of this month or early next month (sometimes as late as September). If you poison the adults after there is already a litter then you are going to have a bunch of dead kits that could smell up your attic

Those buggers are smart and persistent. We had them in our attic. Exclusion wasn't really a great option because of the way our roof was constructed (they didn't bring the metal roof far enough down). Pest control guy couldn't catch them.

I ended up putting a bunch of glue traps close to where they were getting in, which made it impossible for them to move anywhere in the attic without going through them. I killed 4-5 this way a few times a year for a couple years. I guess they got the memo because we haven't had any in about 3 years.

Trap and poison in attic and try to identify how they got in.

I really, really hate squirrels and kill them indiscriminately. Several years ago they cost me $5k in vehicle damage and I live in the country.

So I set traps, my two cats hunt them (they kill mainly young ones, but have killed a few mature ones), and I shoot them with my 22, every single time I see one outside.

My wife shoots them with a 12 gauge.

When my pecan trees have pecans, those bastards are thick and I kill 5-10 a day. Same with my fruit trees, especially my plum trees. Those bastards love the plums and I kill the shite out of them in the plum trees. The deer love the plums and the squirrels can die.

I've killed hundreds over the past few years and will keep blinking every one I see until the day I die.

I skin them after I kill them and give it to my female cat to eat and she loves the meat. She loves it so much that she hunts them and gets really proud when she gets one.

They very well may be flying squirrels. They love to get in attics. They are active at night.

I had a big issue with them back in Georgia so I got rid of them with 4 large spring rat traps. I used peanut butter to get them and I had to screw the traps down to the floor.

This is gonna ramble but it has some good info ......I had a problem with flying squirrels. It was my own fault in that I ignored them for too long and they established themselves in the attic and a couple of those useless storage closets under the steep roof. No exterminator would guarantee getting them out and keeping them out so I took it as a personal challenge.
The first thing I did was throw out everything stored in the under the eaves closets. They were nesting in that trash and leaving waste everywhere. I bought some trail cams and attached them to 5 gallon buckets. I set the buckets at various places inside and outside to see how bad my problem was and to determine where they entered and exited the house. Placing the cameras on buckets allowed me to reposition them in seconds and was really helpful to help me determine the best places to set traps. I learned they spent huge amounts of time in the crawl space under the house. I set glue traps (hated them but hated the squirrels more) and live traps in the attic and the crawl space and checked them first thing every morning. The glue traps caught a lot of them and were really easy to use. I learned the best way to catch them with the live traps was to put a bird seed block into the trap and then leave it open. The squirrels always started picking at it from outside the trap but after a few days would enter and get their fill. Once I saw that on the camera I closed the one way door and the next morning had two or three every time. I closed every hole I found they were using and every potential opening I could find with a heavy gauge 1/4" wire mesh. In my case the two big areas were attic vents and the line running from the HVAC unit and through the foundation block. To a lesser extent they entered by way of the soffit at one corner of the house. I ended up putting a wire barrier on all of the corners. I live close to woods but the cameras showed me they routinely glided from the hickory trees in my yard to the chimney and then had an entrance behind the chimney. I had all five of the hickory trees removed. It took me about two months of constant surveillance and knocking out holes one at a time but eventually I got them all. I don't know the number I had but it was easily into double digits. Let me add that the use of cameras and putting them on the buckets was the key.
Good luck. It isn't easy. They're like mice with wings.

went through this problem a few years ago… Wasn't cheap to get them out (humanely)… I had to hire a company who found the place on my roof where they were getting in… And put in a one-way device so the squirrels could only exit my attic, but not enter. Took about a week for the last squirrel to leave.

Then they fumigated the attic after it was clear to kill any germ left behind

This was in Houston...

But you need to find out how they are getting in...that is first step...in my case, there was a gap where a dormer on my roof met the roof line...then look into one way doors for squirrels.

but you may have a bunch of gaps all over the roof...need to do a full inspection, but there is a good chance the gap is close to the area where you saw poop.

I had them running around up there in the middle of the night. They would wake us up. I at first thought it was roof rats but it was flying squirrels.

I tried the live traps but they were getting out of mine so I did the big spring traps with peanut butter and ended up catching about 20 of them total over a few months. They never came back.

I had to screw the traps down to the floor to keep them from taking them.
