I started adding some into my brokerage account and have about $4,000 worth of MSTY. It's paying me around $250 in dividends MONTHLY that are being reinvested. With DRIP turned on over the last year I'm up way over the S&P with this ETF. It's a short term play and I'm considering turning DRIP off and diverting the dividends to something safer each month until I am able to return my initial investment (probably around 2 years time to totally cover my initial investment based on my calculations). I know it gets a lot of hate but seeing those fat dividends each month in my account im a believer.

ETA: this is all in a Roth. A small percentage of my investment. I am young and have time to have riskier investments

If that is the case then why not invest in the underlying security instead of capping your upside for the payout?

Truthfully because based on calculations if it remains even remotely close to the same returns/ distributions then I could almost have my annual income in dividends in 10 years with no additional investments

yes. i own both. so far so good!

yes. i do NOT DRIP these.

we explained why in a thread the other day. You need to search for that thread. most all things related to these ETFS was covered in that thread. go find it. ULTY has a sweet spot/range where you can buy the mini dips over and over and over weekly. at least for now.

this stuff is not set it and forget it. I treat them as trades. i use stops.

How would that work? These ETFs require high volatility and continued growth. I bought these tow out of curiosity a few months ago, and so far I just feel like I’m taking my money and moving it from my left hand to my right and then back each month.

I’ll reassess in a couple months, but I’m certain if I just DRIP the distributions my entire investment will be gone within 12-18 months.

I've "made" about $3k on various Yield Max funds (majority MSTY, some ULTY, TSLY, NVDY, MARO, CONY) since Memorial Day if I sell everything tomorrow. This was on between $20-30k.

I don't drip and try to buy dips, the only one I'm deep in the red on is TSLY, have about $2500 in it and am down about $300, have only made $100 on distributions from it. Trying to decide if I want to dump it tomorrow before the distribution or try to ride it out.

I'm still fairly new to this, seems like one of the "safer" options for steady income is YMAX but the payouts are obviously not as good.

I'm 31 so obviously have a ways to go for retirement, I'm dumping about 20% of my regular income into my 401K and HSA and just using these ETF's as a pseudo side job to create more income rather than a long term investment. I pull out any cash as needed and if not, I just roll it into more shares of whatever is low and pays decently.

ULTY’s structure is not built to preserve capital. Over time, as volatility drops or the market enters a bearish phase, these funds can begin to erode. The headline yield might still look appealing, but the price decline can offset that completely. In the end, what matters is not just the distribution, it’s the total return. Some investors who entered early and timed it well will walk away happy. But others, especially those who enter late or during a downturn, will be left holding the bag. It’s a game of musical chairs, and someone will inevitably be left standing when the music stops.

I have 2,000 MSTY and I have 7,300 ULTY. I hold both of these in my taxable brokerage in RH.

I take dividends, put 35% aside into SGOV for quarterly taxes, pay down margin, and leave the remainder in my 4% account at RH. I do not DRIP. I purchase when the price reaches a certain threshold, but for all intents and purposes I try to buy about 25% more ULTY every month from my profits. I really like MSTY, but my investing plan only involves buying more ULTY.

ULTY has come a long way from when they were a monthly payer. They restructured their prospectus when they went to weekly and there seems to be a strong floor for this fund. From my basic understanding they keep themselves well protected with puts when things go to shite. For instance, the HIMS tank a few weeks ago. They only blipped for a second as they were covered by the puts they had in place.

I've got lots of MSTY in my Roth IRA. I'd recommend simply buying and holding and letting it grow. It should start running here shortly.

That being said, I played around with it this last Record Date / Ex date simply to make sure it was playing by the rules. If you own it at the opening of the bell on record date you will receive the dividends. If you purchase on Record date / Ex date, you will not.

I'm at ULTY at 6.25, going to try to break even then and get lower, hopefully in the teens.

Seems like it moves around enough to do so.
