When and why did restaurants start locking their bathrooms

Seen this is a couple of places that aren’t ghetto as frick. Been in a Starbucks, taco place, chipotle, and regular American food place that all had locks on the bathroom doors. The taco place didn’t even give me the code, sent a worker back there to open the door for me.
I get it in the fricking ghetto, but what are we doing? What kind of society are we living in that you have to lockdown your bathroom? Sad, sad stuff. Be better

Depending on where it is located, the homeless often use convenient bathrooms to shoot up.

These are in residential areas where homes start at about half a million for like 1100 sq ft

Was in Starbucks in Austin yesterday. Took the biggest shite in the gender neutral bathroom and did not flush. Hope the tranny barista enjoyed the smell.

They lock them here, where homes start at about a million for like 1100 sq ft. Not sure that is a good gauge.

Blame drug use. They’ll go into those single user bathrooms and, at best, tie it up so others can’t use it and make a big mess. At worst, they’ll OD or pass and then it becomes a huge ordeal for the business.
