Really like Saints Draft Class; Many Contributors but wondering if UDFA makes roster ?

I like everyone Saints picked in the draft but the last 2 draft picks.
I think all others will contribute with OT, DL, S, LB, CB, RB picks all heavily being rotated with the starters… if not starting themselves.
Not truly crazy about Shough the 27 yr old QB (especially in the 2nd Rd) but he will contribute “some” as Rattler starts.
QUESTION:
Do we have a heralded UDFA we signed that has a chance to make the roster and “potentially” make an IMPACT (if any). ???

I remember a few years ago, CSP had 4 draft picks and UDFAs and it was almost a given that none of the UDFAs would even make the roster. Man, we really went from loaded to bare in 7 years.

Started falling off quickly once Tom passed. We went from a place players wanted to play with Brees and Payton to the last resort franchise.

Simpkins IOL
Competition wide open. Played in SEC has seen high level play.
Yarns RB
Another wide open spot in need of good depth.
Beanum P
Good leg at Bama.

Are you thinking about 2020? That and 2009 are the only years Payton only had 4 draft picks to work with. In 2020 they signed Marquez Callaway, Blake Gillikin, and Malcolm Roach to the roster.
Looks like none of the 2021 UDFAs made an impact
2022 brought us Shaheed

seems like y'all are reading the sports version of CNN and the propaganda. The sites that hate the Saints picked him over Sanders says he's this old.
His current age is 25.

Not reading anything or propaganda.
You can keep Sanders too.
I didn’t want a QB at all !!
I wanted Best Player Available at #40 and that WAS NOT Shough.
He’s 25 and will be 26 when season starts.
But again… didn’t want a QB but BPA.

Then why are you saying he’s 27? Anyways, wasn’t a fan of the Shough pick either. Still not. But they love him so we’ll see. I like the draft they had as well. I think or hope James Burnip takes over the punting duties. I cannot stand Hedley.

Hedley was gone last year..?

Rattler and Shough both share the same birthday 9/28.
Shough will be 26 y.o. and Rattler 25 y.o. The controversy about age seems to be nothing but nonsense.
The Q.B. competition is supposed to be wide open but everything I've heard through the media has the staff really high on Shough for both his performance and his leadership demeanor. Currently my guess is the starting Q.B. position is Shough's to lose.

Crap he may have been. Should have been.

A great QB can play into his late 30's. So even if a QB isn't great until age 27, you can still get a decade+ of great play out of him. Brees was 27 in his first season with the Saints...and he played for 15 years.
Age isn't the concern. It the lack of meaningful production in 7 years of college that is the concern. Sure, you can have a guy like Joe Burrow who only had one great year of college in 5 seasons become a great NFL QB, or even Cam Newton. But (1) those are the exceptions and (2) their one great year was off the charts good. As in the two of the best single seasons in college football history. Shough's "great" season was being the 5th best QB in one of the weaker P4 conferences.
The Saints need a QB and even the BPA wasn't going to be enough to push the team to a legitimate contender. So if the FO saw something they liked in Shough it was probably a pretty low risk pick with the hope for high upside. While making a bad decision with a top 5-10 pick could have big consequences, passing on someone else at the 40th pick is far less risky.
Personally, I have ZERO expectation Shough will be great, or even a good QB. But in this particular season it's not like there are high expectations for success or that he would be taking snaps from another great option

If your expectations regarding Shough’s performance comes to pass…
Then Saints wasted a 2nd Rd Draft Pick on Shoughs….
Again, should have gone BPA.
