The officer in this video actually did a perfect job of handling the situation. Years later, this video should still be shown in all POST classes

George Jones and Merle Haggard were real country music. Not like the country music of today.

If anyone hasn't seen Mike Judge presents Tales From the Tour Bus try to track it down and watch. It isn't easy to find anymore.

Sadly this is true. He really didn’t get sober until the last 15 years of his life but at least he cleaned up.

And The Possum is the Motherfricking GOAT along with Merle.

George Jones wasn't on the same level of Haggard. I'd put the GOAT as Johnny Cash.

Damn right. Those two frickers did it all as well as Cash. I am partial to Haggard as he could play, write, and lived it.

Judge nails these and I have watched these episodes more times than I can count.

I won’t sit here and take any disparaging of The Possum.

Jones was raised by a drunk and that definitely played a part in his addiction.

All the country singers of his time called him the greatest country singer.

His addiction was a double edged sword, gave him the nickname “No Show Jones” but also gave us all hauntingly deep and sad music.

Jones gave zero fricks, literally. That separated him from 99.9% of anyone involved with country music these days. No sense in pussyfooting around about it. Jones just wanted to drink, ride the back roads, and make enough money to live on.

Distilling beauty from pain, with the artist as the vessel, so we all can drink it in.

To take simple words and notes, lifeless on their own, and make us feel. Make us hurt. Make us cry. Make us heal.

There's magic in it.

I remember the day he died. I was wrestling with my own grief. And channeled that pain into something tangible. I've got a LOT of respect for the Possum. He was truly an inspiration.

One of my radio bosses told me once that the three biggest lies in the music business were:

The check's in the mail

We'll fix it in the mix,

Here's George Jones
