Catholic school fires Louisiana band director after husband's obituary reveals he is gay

Mark Richards said St. Francis Xavier School, in Metairie, Louisiana, terminated him from his job after a “disgruntled” parent contacted the school after reading the obituary. “It’s just a stab in the back,” the 63-year-old band director told New Orleans' NBC affiliate WDSU. “It’s just time for this to stop. The rest of the free world does not think homosexuality is a big deal.”
quote:
Richards’ sexual identity apparently violates a “morality clause” in the contract for the school, a document he said he signed with “a wink and a nudge since it was no big secret that I am gay.”
According to the NBC affiliate, the contract still specifically outlines that any engagement “in homosexual activity” violates the morality clause, as does obtaining an abortion or fathering a child out of wedlock.

They’re getting ripped to shreds on Google reviews

If he had banged a few children they would have given him a raise

In a vacuum he’s right, but he is working for a catholic school.

Ah right! I forgot God Almighty recently stepped down and let Free888 decide morality and right/wrong. Carry on

Then work anywhere else that doesn’t have a morality clause.
There should be no outrage on either side. When you sign a contract then willingly violate it there isn’t really much to talk about.

I don’t think he’s contesting it. He’s just outing the school.

A private Catholic school fires a man after violating the morality clause of his contract. News at 11!

Nope...re-wrod title to appear as
Catholic school fires Louisiana band director after he violates a “morality clause” in the contract for the school that he agreeably signed knowing he was in violation of.

Yep...the issue isn't being gay. The issue is signing a clause that say's you're not when you in fact are.

Yes, and also outing the school for knowing he was gay for the many years he worked there.

Or maybe reword it to “Catholic school behaves very Christian like and fires Louisiana band Director after he violates a morality clause in the contract that he signed, even though they knew he was in violation for all the years he previously worked“

If the school knew he was openly gay and just now decided to do something does he not have any legal recourse?
Also sounds like a pretty poor time to do it if he has just lost his partner.

A morality cause doesn't require an employer to terminate an employee for a violation, it simply gives them the ability to do so. They are not required to enforce it. He signed it, he was required to adhere to it.

Apparently, a parent complained. Either a donor or the parent threatened to wreck sh**.

Yes, I am aware of that. I am not claiming it was illegal. Only that it was very Christian like.

So the opinion of the world is what matters? Or is it the teachings of the Bible? Hint: it’s a catholic school.
