My father in law recently got into cooking ribs a lot and he loves it.
Any good recs on a good rib cutting/slicing knife as a gift?
Thanks in advance.

A good bread knife is what I use. I use them on brisket too.
Don't let the price fool you.

I like the above knife much better than this one, which isn't a bad knife, just pricey.

It all depends on what you mean by “good”. A Victorinox chef knife with a Fibrox handle is
pretty much the standard for what a restaurant would use, but they aren’t like some work of art - but they are incredibly functional.
They do make “upgraded” quality handles for home use, but the Fibrox are super easy to clean/take care of.
I actually use a Victorinox clever for ribs.
Outside of that, a good large chef knife would probably be good.

You might not think I'm serious but.... at Rouses and other stores there's normally a rack of knives with with white handles, Marlin is the brand. Get him an 18" Scalloped Bread knife. I use it for everything from slicing ribs, brisket and holiday ham to cleaning red snapper and redfish off the bone to cutting the skin off of big catfish. For $20, they can't be beat.
eta, its a 10" not an 18"

Thanks for the input. “Good” to me is anything effective that gets the job done. Price doesn’t necessarily come into the equation.
I just want something for him that gets the job done and will go with his enjoyment of cooking/grilling.

Bread knives seem to be getting the nod here so far
Thanks for the response.

I use a filet knife. Makes it easy to follow the bone and make a clean cut.
Which I guess means a good boning knife would also work.

All the comp rib teams use electric knives, if he's into that. I do don't own one, but i would appreciate one as a gift.

I have a couple of really nice Gyuto knives and I still find myself using my Victorinox knives more than anything else. I have this one for brisket/ribs and I love it.
