In 2025 why can’t banks overnight you a new card w/ tracking instead of 5-7 days?

It is debit card, I use mine maybe 6 times a year to take out some cash. Have a reserve of cash in the house just in case as well.
Why are you not using a credit card? Even then carry 2 different ones, so you have redundancy in case of compromise.
Get a better bank, USAA will overnight cards if I ask at no charge.

I use my credit card for everything and have two debit cards. One debit card is for my normal account that I get my paycheck deposited to and one that is tied to my HYSA.

Agree with this. My debit cards go straight to the shredder.
And if OP is one of those people that cannot get a credit card, or don't trust themselves with credit cards; just get a prepaid credit card. Anything is better than using a card that is directly tied to your cash accounts.

Do you have a local bank, if so just go and take out some cash in person.
What scenario are you in, that the 5-7 day wait is going to be detrimental?

This again.
Visa's $0 liability applies to debit and credit cards (so does MC's). Your bank fighting you to enforce it in a timely manner is a symptom of your bank, not the fact that something is a debit card. USAA has made me whole ETA: within 36 hours (meaning gave me the money back, not necessarily closed the entire investigation) when a waitress stole my card, and when someone direct debited their mortgage out of my checking account.

This may be true but doesn't change the fact that it is stupid to use debit cards in public.
If someone skims your debit card and goes on a walmart shopping spree and drains your bank account, then your auto-debited mortgage bounces as well as other items, even if they give you back the fraudulent money, they generally won't help you with any other fees you incur.
Skimming a credit card is taking the banks money. Skimming a debit card is taking your money.
Huge difference.

I am seeing more and more places that will add a surcharge if you use a credit card. The grocery store I usually shop at (WinCo) won't even take credit cards. So, a debit card beats the heck out of hauling a bunch of cash around.

I quit using my debit card for anything other than cash withdrawals when I learned there are very few protections for fraud.
Also, my bank can create a new card in the branch while you wait.

Chase gives the option of 5-7 business days or overnight if you need it sooner.

Anyone that carries a debiks card is low IQ. I won’t even let one be issued to any account I have.
