More than half a million individuals from the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere will have to go back home in the coming months as Team Trump continues to enforce immigration law properly.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on Friday in a press release that she will terminate ‘temporary protected status’ (TPS) for the country of Haiti. The TPS designation for Haiti ends on Aug. 3, 2025, and the termination will go into effect on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
There are roughly 520,000 Haitians currently living in the US.
“This decision restores integrity in our immigration system and ensures that Temporary Protective Status is actually temporary,” a DHS spokesperson said regarding the move. “The environmental situation in Haiti has improved enough that it is safe for Haitian citizens to return home.
“We encourage these individuals to take advantage of the Department’s resources in returning to Haiti, which can be arranged through the CBP Home app. Haitian nationals may pursue lawful status through other immigration benefit requests, if eligible.”
According to the press release, Noem determined that, based on a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services review of the conditions in Haiti and in consultation with the Department of State, conditions in Haiti have improved to the point where Haitians residing in America can return home.
The decision by the DHS comes one month after the Supreme Court ruled that it would allow the Trump administration to revoke legal status for more than 500,000 people from Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Venezuela to temporarily live and work in America.
The Trump Administration previously appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court following an Obama judge’s ruling, demanding the revocation of temporary legal status for these migrants.

I understand not wanting to go back to Haiti, but it’s time for them to fight for their country instead of letting it descend further into lawlessness.

The Dominican Republic seems to do all right.

I love how that is worded and that is exactly what I voted for.

Because they don't let all of the Haitians in.

I do, too, but I question what Haitians contribute to the economy and country in general. I know of plenty of Mexican, Honduran, and other Central American people who are hard workers and builders. I’ve never seen Haitians involved with anything of the sort. Admittedly, it could be a geographic thing and I just don’t see it myself.

They have been housing them in federal housing projects in some areas.
