What is your preferred Bible translation?

I love the KJV, especially for it’s poetic reading, strong founding in the TR, and 400 plus year old reliability, so I tend to stick with it as home base, but I also like the NKJV, and occasionally venture to the ESV and NIV.
Looking to make my first actual premium bible purchase and trying to decide on version to go with. I’ve recently run across the Humble Lamb Bibles which are anything but humble in price from what I’m accustomed to spending on a bible, but superb in readability, design, comfort, and construction to the point it has me seriously considering pulling the trigger for a premium bible and eventual keepsake or hand me down.
I’ve also considered the Cambridge, Holman, and RL Allen in either goat or calf skin, but none of them really have grabbed me like the Humble Lamb, most probably because of the text and layout, but I’m also open to other suggestions.

The Cambridge is simple, yet beautiful to read. Their print is bold and vibrant and the Red Letters pop on the page! I also have a couple of Schuyler Bibles and they are gorgeous!!! I study with KJV, but I read a new translation every year. I have read the NKJV, ESV, American Standard, NIV and currently on the NET translation. None match the prose of KJV.

I like the KJV as you do for the same reasons. Also the NKJV.
The ESV is very good and a real favorite.
Don’t care too much for the NIV and its dynamic equivalence philosophy/methodology. Not that it’s all bad, but it has a few issues.
I have recently enjoyed and profited from re-reading the old Good News For Modern Man translation. It flows surprisingly well and is accurate and conservative in its approach.

King James Version.
You really have to watch which Bible you buy now days, as modern scholas are giving the Coptic Church version prevenance over the western Bible (Textus Receptus).
By doing this they leave off many verses in the Textus Receptus, this is due to the Coptic Church believes.

I love the KJV for its beauty, but when I want clarity, I use the NASV. The NIV is a poor translation.

I’ve read where the influence of Gnosticism out of Alexandria is a real concern for many. I don’t know how much I subscribe to anything as I really don’t know much beside I just love and trust the reliability of the KJV.
I will say this, I thumbed through the Message this weekend at a book store and that was so far off that I could not believe what I was reading on some pretty fundamental stuff.

Usually ESV for me. Sometimes NASB. I find those to be the most modern literal translations.

I’m very partial to my NASB with commentary that I got covered in water buffalo hide while in Zimbabwe on a mission trip
It’s one of my prized possessions
For a more modern translation, I do enjoy the new living translation

The English translation.
Joking aside, I like ESV and NKJV. Not a fan of NIV.

ESV. The council that developed the ESV was much more knowledgeable in Hebrew than the council who developed the KJV.

NKJV. for the reasons you mentioned with some of the archaic language smoothed out.

ESV for me. I love the ESV study bible. NKJV would be my second choice.
