5-Pin Bow Sight Distances - Spot&Stalk

Headed to Alberta to chase mule deer in September and I just moved over from a single pin to a 5-pin sight based on the outfitters recommendations.
I need to be able to shoot out to 60 comfortably and I can do that now. I’m try to determine where I should set my pins though. I like the idea of practicing out to 80 yards. If I stick with intervals of 20, I’m up to 100 yards and I don’t like have that much distance between pins. Is this just a matter of setting out to longer distances for practice and then readjusting prior to the hunt?

5 seems like too many. Too much opportunity for confusion or vapor lock at the moment of truth. Not to mention just plain ole using the wrong pin.
I would consider three pins to be perfectly adequate: 25, 45, and 60. If you have to hold over his back with the 60 pin, he's too far.

I use this style
I have a 3 pin hybrid set to 20-30-40 for quick "keep it simple" hunting sight and use the slider for long distance backyard practice where there yardage is exact and the styrofoam don't flinch. It's available in 5 pin as well.

Personally, I am not shooting an animal further than 45 yds....beyond that, the risk of a wound shot is enormous.

I shoot a recurve and my max is 15 yards. Bow hunting is about how close, not how far. JS

Id probably set them at 25, 35, 45, 55, 65.
The arrow is dropping pretty fast when you get that far out. An elk I’d probably shoot out to 55ish with adequate practice, but a deer sized animal I don’t think I’d push any past about 40 yards.

They're a lot of variables here. What weight is the bow set at? 70 and above and those 5 pins are going to be pretty close till 40 yards. I would have three pins with 20,40,60 or depending on room maybe 20,35,50, 55, 60

I also advise a 3 pin. For CENLA whitetails I have mine set at 20, 30 & 40. I've never used the bottom pin on a real deer.

When dialed in you can hit long shots, but a target doesn't move like a deer on sound. Last one I killed with my bow was right at 30 yards. Good aim, smooth release and I spined her because she dropped a few inches on the sound of my bow shooting. I had to go jihadi style and cut her throat but at least I didn't have to trail her.

I have a three pin that's adjustable. I sight in at 20, 30, and 40. If i need to shoot further than 40 I can dial the range and use the 40 pin for longer ranges. 5 pins have always felt too crowded for me.
I try not to shoot more than 30 yards at deer so it only gets used in practice or 3d shoots but it works well. I think the sight is a black eagle, I'll have to go check.

I have a single pin adjustable on mine and have only these 3 marked. I've been shooting a bow for a long time, but know my limits. Pretty rare for me to even move it from the 20 notch. I don't say that to mean I'm some kind of purist, I'm just not that good.

That's the same reason I dont shoot at deer past 30. I completely lose my shite when bowhunting. Idk how I haven't fallen out of the tree from shaking so much. Even does get me amped. One of the reasons I love it so much.

Five pin is too many.
Be prepared to shoot to sixty yards. Those that will only shoot thirty yards and under would come home from your trip empty handed.
