Happened last weekend. She was swimming along the east shore of the east pass north of the jetty. Officials have called off the search but volunteers are still looking.

What is the probability they ever find her body?

not a joke or smartass comment at all, but I think it’s an extremely sharky season right now along the panhandle, might not be on their menu but something is going to take a bite

Also, it was near a full moon last weekend, so supposedly the current was super strong if you get into the deep portion in there. I’m not sure if I would swim along that stretch without a lifejacket on.

Cue all the douchebags who take this tragedy as an opportunity to call the parents shitty people and brag about how they’d never let a ten year old out of their sight for more than a second.

Very strong current I used to snorkel along that sea wall by the condos right there. Used to catch stone crab. But point is it’s deep and strong current.

on the other hand I remember when I lived in Jupiter Fl a guy washed up on our beach, he’d been fishing off the coast near Tampa and fell overboard in rough seas, Gulf Stream carried him all the way around the horn and when he hit the beach he had his clothes on and wallet was still in his pants

My coworker lost his step son in a rip tide a few weeks ago in Pensacola. Florida beaches are super dangerous right now.

Sad story. I’ve only been to Crab Island once, but that water was really moving when I was there. Not an issue in knee deep or less, but a youngster in the deeper water would be a bad situation. After this long I wouldn’t be optimistic about finding the body.

I think it was last year that there was a grown man swept away from crab Island.

As much as people may object, it’s probably not a bad idea to wear a life jacket whenever swimming in a body of water.

Cue the douchebag taking this tragedy as an opportunity to make an unnecessary straw man against something no one else was bringing up.

That's awful. We were down around Santa Rosa for the past week. I got some rip current alerts on my phone the last few days we were there. I had a couple of teenagers with me so I had to make sure they didn't do anything too stupid.

They didn’t bring it up because put the roadblock up. You’re welcome
