Jumped a hair too early but that’s very difficult to time on a hit like that. He assumed Jones barreled it up better than he did

Jones hit it towards the end of the bat. Ball was probably curving a little as it got to the fielder.

Probably mistimed his jump a bit. That ball probably wasn't actually hit as hard as he thought

You could read Van Horn's lips " he jumped late"

Maybe so but it was a tad high

Well, I don’t know how you categorize it. He tried to catch it but didn’t because it was a very difficult play to execute.

No.

Maybe an absolutely perfect jump and he has a chance to catch it but it would have been an all time web gem.

It should have been ruled an error, as should have Hernandez’ rope to left field.

The ball hit the second baseman in the glove as he misplayed his jump on the line drive.

Honestly him tipping it and slowing it down erased any chance they had at having a play at the plate. Not saying the CF would have been able to throw at Papi at the plate but he would have had a better opportunity.

Thanks for the responses - that was a mess of a half inning

He was already positioned deep behind 2nd base. If he would have been at his normal position it wouldn’t have been close

I wondered about that being a factor, too
