Several people have been wondering this, but there isn't really a way for us to know unless he steps on the mound in a game.

I saw him in dugout. Not sure if he's active.

I mean, all he was doing at the end of the year was throwing hard strikes down in the zone?????

He must suck at practice.

He might be the secret weapon since they don't have enough scouting report on him

He looked good against Ole Miss. Not sure why we haven't seen him. Maybe Jay playing 4D chess here to surprise.

Lineup for UCLA

This is lineup given to the press for UCLA. He’s not listed in players not starting. Not sure who issues these for LSU.

He is not on the 27 man post season roster. A player not on the roster can be in the dugout, but has to be listed on the 27 man post season roster in order to play. Mic Paul is also in the dugout...and he is currently in the transfer portal...not listed on the 27 man post season roster.

He hasn’t been listed on either of CWS game lineups released but did make the travel roster

That's correct. Just because a person is in the dugout does not mean they are eligible to play. Fontenot isn't on the roster...just like Mic Paul isn't on the roster. They are both in the dugout, but neither can enter the game. Anyone not on the 27 man post season roster is not eligible to enter a game.

Might like a Mic Paul thing. Team player so Jay brought him to Omaha.

Two of the others are Gavin Guidry and Eddie Yamin.

If Fontenot was brought even though he's not on the roster, it speaks to how Jay feels about him as a person and teammate.

yea but he said they couldnt be in the dugout if not on the roster...there are multiple examples of that not being true. You mentioned 1, gavin is another as is fontenot.

Like the NFL they bring a practice squad to activate the next game if someone is injured and unable to play.

I’m surprised Ware is on the postseason roster. I doubt they’d trust him to pitch in a close game.

Sorry for the confusion. I said they COULD be in the dugout, but not be entered into the game. Yeah...there are several that traveled but not listed on the roster. I've been keeping an eye on Fontenot the entire post season. I was impressed with his last outing....thought we might could use him in Omaha.

NCAA Rules for squad size and dugout size

Interesting that this says 26 for active roster but there are actually 27 active.

Also says a max of 32 student athletes in the dugout, so that leaves room for 5 extra players. The NCAA does NOT pay for travel for the extra players, so LSU has to pay that

Edit: Just noticed that my link is Division II. So apparently D-1 allows for one more player.
