On Stanfield’s hit that scored Hernandez, Josh Jordan was waving Curiel around 3rd on what I think would’ve been a guaranteed out at home.

Awesome base running instincts by Curiel. If he goes and is thrown out, we probably only get 1 run that inning instead of 3.

1:50 mark on Wheels highlights:

It would’ve been a close play. It wasn’t a guaranteed out by any means.

He paused at shortstop. Not sure why but don’t think Jordan saw that. Curiel knew after that he wasn’t going to make it.

Yep. Good catch. I guess the coach was too excited and got greedy? Glad the 18 year old kid knew better. I think he would have been out too. Curiel would have been only halfway down the line when the cutoff man got the ball. 90% chance he gets thrown out.

Curiel was fooled by the fake catch motion by the right fielder. The coach was basing his signal on where the ball was landing and curiels speed. If curiel watches the 3rd base coach off contact he scores easily.

Curiel would have scored had he not been fooled by the left fielder bluffing the catch. Jordan was not fooled, however he did not see Curiel hesitate. Whatever. It worked out. Geaux Tigahs.

Exceptionally smart play by the Arkansas left fielder. It ultimately didn’t matter, but his quick-thinking decoy did exactly what it was designed to do.

That is a good point. I never played baseball, so I don’t know the answer to this, but is the baserunner supposed to watch the 3rd base coach on contact or is he supposed to use his own judgement until he get close to 3rd and then look to the coach?

Looks like a better chance he’d have been safe. Strange thing to claim to know for sure.

I think Curiel just needs to trust his experience and not get fooled. The coach probably had a better angle to know it wasn’t being caught also.

I believe the fake with the glove up and the sun caused DC to pause.

He got a great jump off the bat but then stuttered on his way to 3rd. The view from the outfield showed it. He either lost the ball or wasn’t sure if it was going to be caught bc the fielder put his glove up. Better to be safe than run into an out at home killing a big inning.

Third baseman could have deked him or he heard someone yell something that made him hold up. Or, he just knows his abilities better than Jordan.

I really think that Curiel is so baseball savvy that, with only 1 out, he didn’t think it was worth the try for home. I believe if it was 2 outs he would have tried.

It looked like for a step or two he tweaked something. For a couple strides I thought he messed up his hammy.
