What was the Landscape when Israel was formed?

It was British controlled? Assuming a lot of Jews and a lot more came in from Euro zone.

Not nearly as many as the Yids. In fact, there really is no truly ethnic Jew. They're either slavs, germanics or palestinian/arabs. Of course there are many other converts from different nationalities and ethnic groups but there is no true ethnic Jew. That's more of a religious or culture thing.

It's always been hazy how German genocide and this ties in - feels like we went through WW2 and was like oh and Israel was created

Do yourself a favor, check out Darryl Cooper's "Fear and Loathing in the New Jerusalem" on spotify, etc.
It's a long series, but in the first couple hours he helps you understand the the position of all parties. He's great at putting you in their shoes, understanding how situations evolve, in pretty entertaining (or maybe interesting is a better word).
Heavily criticized by both sides, which may indicate that it's a relatively neutral version of history.

Persecution of Jews and Zionism predates the Holocaust. That sent it into overdrive with support from us.
But the British had been immigrating them there before that.

Eventhough these are movies, they point in the correct direction and can help with an understanding for some. And of course, they may be a slant from 1960 Hollywood. Take it with a grain, but it's a start and develops some understandding.
