Sons of bitches eat all my damn finch bird seed in half a day, lazy arse dog won’t chase them away.
I buy a tiny feeder, I buy seed marketed for finches, but the bastards still bout tip the feeder over and gorge themselves on it. I’ve had enough!
What’s the trick?

When you find out, let me know I came home to 30 pigeons, black birds and crows. Looked like a bad omen lol!

Probably grackles. I hate those birds. They come in flocks and ruin the party.

See if you can get some squirrels to locate the feeder. ! Pick your poison. Put a camera under feeder and see what comes in at night. You will be surprised. Much more than blackbirds!

Safflower seed. They typically do not care about eating safflower seeds. Once I changed to safflower I stopped having issues with grackles or blackbirds.

Cheap dog food or bread tossed out in another area of the yard. The less desirables will congregate to it.

This solved my pigeon problem.

My grandpa was a redass.
We used to make traps with lard from butchering. Trip the trap when it was full of blackbirds. We'd kill so many we'd turn the snow red.
No more blackbirds issues.

I have the same problem! One gets up on the feeder and rakes feed out to the rest of the flock. Fill it in the morning and they empty it by noon.

Finch feeder? We had those things build nests in all of our ferns this year. They’re nice birds but it’s a pain to water the plants gracefully instead of hosing them down.

Put a "Help Wanted" sign on the feeder.

You were saying? LOL. At least they sing good.
Everything here is big. No small birds. Ducks, ibis, blackbirds, grackles, doves. Everything is big. Sandhill cranes, and deer eat out of my damn feeder.

These bastards will empty your feeders in a hour.

Re: Safflower seeds: I put some in as a squirrel deterrent as a neighbor suggested (did not work). Small birds loved the seeds, but seems like I had a lot of white bird poop all over the area near the feeders . . . .lol

Gives a new meaning to “a murder of crows”.

Mostly starlings, but if it was black then we killed them.
My grandpa would climb trees to raid crows' nests for young crows for pets. My dad always had a pet crows growing up. Middle of nowhere redasses.

We finally got them to start coming to ours and now they come every single day. Not always that many but usually 5-10 at a time. They are very entertaining.
Four of them are out there right now as I type this.
