Two things can be true at the same time. It's true that the riots are completely unacceptable, and a bunch of people taking part in them should be arrested and/or deported. Also true is that Los Angeles is a huge sprawling city and unless you happen to be in a few blocks of downtown, it's business as usual and has no impact on your day-to-day life.

"Los Angeles has fallen" and "Los Angeles is burning" is for drama queens and people trying to draw attention to themselves on the internet.

This was true of Seattle in 2020. All the bullshite happened on 5-10 blocks.

Same is prob true in LA. That being said, frick anyone trying to downplay the optics. If its not as bad as conservatives are making it, then the silent majority of protestors need to nutt up and stop their folks. Where is everyone condemning the violence and looting?

ETA: And how dumb are the democrats? For voters they are OVERWHELMINGLY on the wrong side of the fence(pun intended). If this keeps up or escalates, Vance is going to dance into the Whitehouse.

I know downtown south of LAPD HQ is rough right now.

I was there for May Day on Broadway a few years ago, and there was a huge parade of socialists, with spanish barked at the crowd through a bullhorn. Cesar Chavez is the star of that holiday.

Are you implying that all the fires and pillage we saw in respect for "Floyd" was fake?
LA didn't burn in honor of Rodney King?

They use the protest as photo ops to show the country is in chaos. When Trump cuts it short, they say its not a big deal. Trump is playing chess.

I won't imply anything. I'll just flat out say it. You're fricking illiterate if that's what you took from his statement.

For people who say it’s isolated, or isn’t as bad as it looks, I’ve got a question for you?
How much looting is tolerable?
How many illegals waving Mexican flags is allowable?
How may bricks and objects need to be thrown at authorities for it to be too much?

Remember that Margaret Brennan believes Tren de Aragua taking over an apartment block is ok.

No one here is saying any of it is tolerable and everyone agrees that there should be criminal consequences for those involved.

Why are you pretending that anyone is saying anything other than that?

Pointing out the extent of the rioting (i.e. being truthful about the situation) is part of normal discussion. We can say these things are bad and also acknowledge they aren't as bad as the 2020 or 1992 riots.

I hear what you're saying. Obviously the riots are pretty bad. What I don't get is why, if the media is telling us that the protests are mostly peaceful, are they not showing us footage of these peaceful protests rather than the burning of a city?

The Governor of California and almost all Dem reps are saying it’s mostly peaceful and no biggie. Many are also saying all of these illegals should be granted amnesty

Footage of 10k people calmly walking probably gets 1/10000 the clicks of a dozen people lighting a cop car on fire or looting an Apple Store

Sex/Violence/Fear sells in media, so that's what you are going to be fed.

Yes, bad shite is happening in LA and other places. Yes, those responsible need full prosecution. But it's also true that in those cities, the vast vast majority of people are as disconnected from it as we are in Louisiana

This just in TV doesn’t give you an accurate representation of the situation. During the 2020 protests my city had intense protests and if I was not on the internet I would have had exactly zero idea any of this was happening.

"Yes, there were a few burning Waymos.

But it was mostly peaceful citizens defending their vulnerable neighbors."
