Assuming the governor signs, which he will, the constitutional amendment will go on the ballot in April 2026. If it is approved by the majority of the state (it will) and East Baton Rouge Parish (it will be close), the district will begin operations in July 2026.

Correction July 2027.

The Parish can veto a constitutional amendment?

Serious question, not from LA.

StGISD will start with students fall 27.

Only worry is the people statewide who automatically vote no for all constitutional amendments.

Allowing students to cross district lines for charters and magnets will help it pass EBR.

I'll vote for it. If they put some big money up for prizes like Elon did.

In LA, if an amendment affects less than five parishes, it must be approved by the parish or parishes that it does affect.

You can bet the same fricktards that fought StG tooth and nail will do all they can to scuttle this in EBR. MOP will reach out from grave to defeat an ISD fir StG.

Because everyone should have to suffer in the EBRPSS (unless you have the money to send your kids to private schools). Which is the true irony... "rich" white kids are going to avoid shitty public schools regardless. This mindset fricks middle class white and black kids alike.

On the flip side, St. George people still want access to EBR magnets and charters. Not sure how that would work or why they would expect that.

As a transition for StG kids that are already in magnets/charters (or in pipelines) until the district is up an running.
