Bermuda sod with nut sedge

Just laid the sod Memorial Day weekend and see a few nut sedge. Can I hit it with sedgehammer or something, or is it too early?

Watching this. I have a ton of sedge in my common Bermuda and sedgehammer doesn’t touch it.

Perfect time right now. Takes at least two applications a month or so apart while actively growing so they say don’t treat after August. I just use image from Home Depot and mix in a 1-gal to spot treat. It’s doing a good job. I just started getting serious about my side yard this year and nutsedge is almost 100% gone or yellow. Used to have 500+ of those things.

I think you will be fine spot spraying.

Sedgehammer smokes nutsedge so something is off

I'm so tired of fighting weeds, I just keep it cut low and keep it green with triple 13.....I do spot spray for VBW, but that's all.
I do but 1 pallet of fresh sod and place in weak areas every spring.....works for me.

Just relax, the weeds are green too.

Could be kyllinga instead. Being a weed novice, I had some kyllinga pop up last year that I thought it was nutsedge. I hit with sedgehammer a couple of times with nothing happening.
I ended up hitting it with certainty and dismiss and it went away. Looking at the label, sedgehammer only suppresses kyllinga whereas certainty seems to control. I've since stopped using sedgehammer in favor of certainty.

Good point. If you are seeing killings drop some sand there. Sometimes works just as well as herbicides. Raise the low spot and sand drains faster.

Sledgehammer does nothing. Hit it with Dismiss

Mow low and often to reduce weed pressure. Every 2-3 days.
I’d go ahead and spot spray but would be hesitant to use Sedgehammer+ with these temps. It includes a surfactant.

I of course have a ton of other weeds some of which I haven’t identified yet, but this is before I cut this morning. This is what I’m thinking is my nutsedge problem.

Lookin good in the sense that you have 100% Bermuda now.
Keep it lower, and fertilize every weekend!

Will try, thanks.

I’ll agree sedgehammer is a waste of money. The ortho nutsedge killer in the bottle you hook to the hose does way better.

I did 2 pallets of common Bermuda on Memorial Day weekend. Have watered twice daily unless we received rain and mowed once yesterday.

Sounds like you probably installed Tifway 419.
I also laid two pallets (TifTuf) in early April. I started mowing on day 9 and never looked back. Keep mowing often and the weed pressure will go down.

I don’t know how some of you are having issues with sedgehammer. Nutsedge doesn’t have a resistance to it and it kills it fairly easy.

I use the generic sedgehammer with no issues. You don't really notice it killed it until you cut again and it stops growing. shite is definitely tough though and a 1 time spraying isn't going to rid your yard of it for the the future. Have to be persistent over a few years.
