Jay’s gambit last night failed. Maybe tonight

will have a different result.

Hopefully this puts an end to the Chase Shores and Jacob Mayer experiment. They need to move on and make room for pitchers that can pitch.

I thought that it was axiomatic to start your best pitcher, but maybe Jay is onto something?

I made this argument before the first game. You always pitch your best guy. Never play for tomorrow

Is there reason to believe he was "saving" anyone for today? If so, that is borderline retarded.

I don’t think Jay is saving them at all. But, it seems like he uses them when he has the lead or at least tied up. Had the score been 6-4 Tigers in the 4th or later, you would have seen Evans and Cowen.

It was ridiculous to sit on these guys as they continued to struggle and give away runs.
Johnson’s game plan appeared to be just see what happens and save arms to win the game Monday.

Shores and Mayer can hit 100 with their fastballs. You take those guys every time and hope they eventually get control. You don't recruit guys who can throw strikes but top out at 85, because they're never going to record an out.

It seems likely that Jay calculated that LSU would crush the LR pitching which was not unreasonable. But that’s how baseball “geaux”. Lol

Almost like he was trying to lose according to some one here...

We will need these arms, especially Shores, if we actually want to make noise in the postseason. Shores had been improving until last night. He has good stuff, just can't seem to find the strike zone enough.

Johnson acted like he has the baseball world be the balls. He has all the answers but he doesn’t seem to know any of the questions.Skip has forgotten more than this arrogant, little man will ever know.

It’s interesting people keep saying this knowing Skip routinely held pitchers and pitched 3rd or even 4th guys when we opened regionals against a lowest seed
I guess the best college baseball coach of the modern era was just lucky it didn’t backfire in his face.

You misunderstand gambit, friend.

There really isn’t any way to shine this turd.
The standard for college baseball just go beat at home in a regional by a team from the Ohio Valley that’s 7 games under .500 and has only been in D1 for two years. And they had to come out of the losers bracket pitching their 4th pitcher.
There is no way to say that’s acceptable.

And yet the walk to first base is slow.

We had a bunch of players acting like clowns in the dugout wearing stupid hats. They thought they had it in the bag.
Hopefully getting embarrassed by a junior college will wake them up a little.

Jay has put all the pressure on his team for tonight’s must win game. LR is playing with house money and should be exploding with confidence after yesterday’s game. Jays pitching decisions yesterday combined with his refusal to move Jones in the batting order and bench Brasswell for good has put LSU in this situation. How many less walks would cowen/Evans record yesterday? How many more runs would we have scored with Jones in the 8 or 9 hole? I hope CJJ shakes it up drastically today or this is the end of the road.

Our opponent last night showed this is incorrect. We have two 6'8" dudes who can throw 100 and can't hit the side of a barn. LR had a nobody with a weak arm who wrecked us.
