RIP. Always check in on your loved ones

quote:

John Brenkus, the man most well known for the popular Sport Science series, has passed away according to a post shared to his Facebook profile.

Sport Science was an innovative program that took a deeper dive into a side of sports that truly had never been explored before. It won multiple Emmys during its time with Fox Sports Net and made many appearances on ESPN breaking down various athletes, plays, and moments.

The message posted to Brenkus’ page on Sunday night states, “It is with profound sadness that we share the news that John Brenkus has passed away. John, co-founder of BAsE PRoductions, founder of Brinx.TV and co-creator and host of the 6-time Emmy Award-winning “Sport Science,” had been battling depression. John lost his fight with this terrible illness on May 31st, 2025. His heartbroken family and friends request privacy at this time, and encourage anyone who is struggling with depression to seek help.”

quote:

John Brenkus had publicly talked about his battles with depression previously, telling Wiley that he had tried to attempt suicide before his dog saved him during an interview in January 2023 where he advocated for the importance of caring for mental health and providing hope for others.

That was a great show. ESPN started going downhill when they took his show off. RIP

“Lost his battle with depression”?

So- he iced himself and they’re talking like it was cancer?

Was going to make the same comment. Odd way to say he took his own life.

There are options to cure depression. Go do some damn Ibogain or go on a Ayauaska trip or something. So many options available even in the US

STFU and have a little bit of empathy, respect, and common decency. Depression is indeed an illness and a terrible one at that.

Sports Science was better before ESPN bought it

Why do I strongly suspect you've never done ibogaine nor ayahuasca

Im pretty sure I don't like you Howlsu.
As a war vet, I have been deep in the hole. Close. But Im alive. I've lost too many for you to objectify how easy this may seem.
Now, include childhood abuse. Or, even, arrogance.
Maybe he was just canceled. But maybe much more.
If it is so simple, go heal everyone. If not, stfu. Now.

The one on the 2011 LSU secondary was insane. Think they said those 4 could cover 22 yards of the field in a couple steps

Very sad RIP.

I remember one episode. Getting hit by Quentin Jammer (former CB) - was the equivalent (the same force) as a 35 mph car wreck

I wasn’t taking a shot at him. Just noting it was strangely worded.

While I agree depression is a terrible thing and I encourage anyone who is feeling a certain way to seek help, admittedly, it’s hard for me to fully understand why someone thinks taking their own life is the answer.
