Rooney rule says nothing about being black, it has to be a minority- see Ron Rivera

Rooney didn't follow his only rule and Tomlin was his "minority" after the nfl front office called down and told them they couldn't hire anybody yet.
ironic.

maybe because a bunch of rich white guys don't think much of minorities, hence the rule

How does the Rooney Rule apply to Rivera? I'm saying ESPN and the NFL seem to define minorities as black

Ron Rivera is Latino and has been the only minority that a team or two has interviewed- to comply with the Rooney Rule.

They aren't telling you who you have to hire. They just want you to interview more people. What is wrong with that.

The NFL can require whatever hiring regulations they want. Nobody is forcing the Rooney Rule on them. It was agreed to.

Because if an owner knows exactly who he wants to hire ahead of time he is forced to have a sham interview or two to comply.

Also, if an owner interviewed only minorities (no whities) where is the protection for the white man.

I agree with you when it comes to laws concerning this, but this is an NFL rule that the NFL applied to itself. They are a private business and are free to make whatever restrictions on themselves as they wish.

If I were black I think I would be even more pissed if I felt like I was being given a token interview

the intent of the Rooney Rule was to give qualified minority assistants facetime with the decision makers of the league.

mike tomlin is a direct beneficiary of this rule. it has been said that he basically won the job by being so impressive in the "token" interview.

i've heard it said that minority candidates shouldn't interview in situations where an organization has stated who they intend to hire as a coach. i'd say that's totally wrong. you interview to both polish your skills and attempt to make an impression on the people in the room. you may not get the job, but the way GM's move around and how small the NFL community is, there's a good chance you'll cross paths again.

There has to be a token jew kicker or back up qb somewhere.

And the Asians were haning their pride on Dat Nguyen and Timmy Chang for a while.

b/c it's saying that you have to interview minorites.....not white people

for all intents and purposes, that's called discrimination

So I looked it up. As I suspected there are a handfull-

Players
Jay Fiedler - QB, Dolphins
Lennie Friedman - OL, Redskins
Antonio Garay – DE, Browns
Josh Miller - P, Patriots
Igor Olshansky – DT, Chargers
Sage Rosenfels - QB, Dolphins
Mike Rosenthal - OL, Vikings

Of course they are outnumbered by jewish owners-

Arthur Blank - Owner, Falcons
Al Davis - Owner, Raiders
Malcom Glazer - Owner, Bucaneers
Robert Kraft - Owner, Patriots
Randy Lerner - Owner, Browns
Jeffrey Lurie - Owner, Eagles
Art Modell - Owner, Ravens
Dan Snyder - Owner, Redskins
Robert Tisch - 1/2 Owner, Giants
