Traveling abroad - do they hate us

Tried walking in a restaurant in Italy to get some pizza after our flight and they said they were booked until the next day. There were empty tables and we looked online for reservations the next day and they said there were some available in 15 minutes today. I know I don’t speak Italian, but I’m very polite. Everyone kind of seems disinterested when we speak to them at all. Just getting weird vibes the first day.

Increasingly yes
You may also be used to the south, where people treat each other kindly in public. Some cultures are not like that.

Were you speaking English?

Attempted Italian but my accent gives gay country singer so it doesn’t flow well

did you have your wallet in your front pocket to prevent pick pocket theft? Also Italy is the last place to order pizza

Yes. It is pretty evident when you travel that many people hate you because you’re American. Even more so if you’re fat or obnoxious.

Some of my family were in Italy a couple of months ago for two weeks. They had a great time, the people there were welcoming, and they had no problem getting into restaurants. (They don't speak Italian.) Maybe it's just that one, or the area you were in.

Why do you say this? I lived there for 3 and a half years, the pizza is delicious.

Why?

Our driver we met in Italy comes to visit us here every few years. Maybe “other people” aren’t the problem?

What? In Everybody Loves Ramon, Ray and the family go to Italy, he orders a few slices, and says it’s the best he’s ever tasted!
I guess you can’t trust Hollywood

I would kill to have an opportunity to try the real deal spaghetti and meatballs in Italy. Not that quick shite they cook in this part of the world. Maybe one day.

Maybe they were just homophobic

Maybe I annoyed them by saying thank you in English and Italian and holding the door open for the people exiting the restaurant as we walked in. You not blaming me for this lol.

Probably hard to find. It’s an American dish.

I can’t say exactly what happened to you, but open tables aren’t always a clear indicator that the restaurant isn’t busy. They might be understaffed.

Don't bother. Clearly, you won't be served.

I have never really felt unwelcome. Only in Paris were people rude because i was American. Though i expected that there. In Italy most were really friendly.
But if i sense I or my money isn't welcome. I keep it moving.
I did have a bartender in Amsterdam with an attitude.
But Italy and Spain i have bring but good things to say. Colombia too. If your a single guy go to Colombia. A half million peso a day budget will have your living the high life but that's like $120 in real money. Shakiras and Sophia Vegaras every where
