Gold Cup / pre tournament friendlies thread / roster release

Well, the Poch era is off to an interesting start. This summer’s gold cup was supposed to be a trial run for the World Cup with our full strength squad. There will be some notable omissions:
- McKennie, Weah, and Reyna are out for the club World Cup
- Pulisic and Jedi are out for fatigue/load management (and for Jedi a still problematic knee issue)
- Musah is out for “personal reasons”
- Sargent (championship striker of the year) was left out by Poch for some reason in favor of guys who imo didn’t play as well this year.
- Scally is a notable omission and when asked about it Poch made a vague statement about needing an attack-minded profile from our fullbacks. Strangely John Tolkin wasn’t included after having a fantastic year for a shite team in the Bundesliga. He’s a threat on set pieces and the best LB in the pool behind Robinson imo.
- other potentially puzzling omissions: Paxten Aaronson (one of the best young players in the Eredivisie this year), Tessmann, Aidan Morris, Richie Ledezma (instead we get LDLT, Sean Zawadski. Max Arfsten?!?)
- Zendejas has been one of the best players in LigaMx but doesn’t get a call up
- Brian Gutierrez has been fantastic for Chicago and plays a position of need since we don’t have many natural wingers
Interesting inclusions are Sebastian Berhalter (who sneakily became the best 8 in MLS over the past 3 months) and Alex Freeman, a first year starter for Orlando and son of an NFL probowler. Also, Damion Downs is a fantastic striker prospect - German American who spent some time in Texas playing American football when he was younger - who helped get Koln promoted to the Bundesliga this year.

Stud. Fast, big, strong, young, and can control the ball like no 6'2 guy should be able to. If Poch wanted someone who can get up the pitch and attack he is it. Not sure if he is better than Scally or Tolkin (never thought he was that great at NYRB but haven't watched him in Germany) currently, but he's the future.

It’s seems that we have way too many players that would rather just play club ball.

What a world we're in where the best striker in the championship is left at home in favor of a gaggle of MLS players.
And like I said in the other thread, even though he's struggled in appearances for us in the past leaving Zendajas off after the year he's had is crazy. Especially with no Weah or CP.
Diego Luna save us please
Also, I hope he swaps one of the GKs after camp for a field player. Otherwise taking 4 keepers to a tournament is fricking asinine.

Not saying this is something I care about, especially since it’s for a Liga MX side, but Zendejas has a play-in game for the Club World Cup here soon. Probably why he isn’t coming.

I saw a report that CPs hip injury issues are believed to be chronic and that he's been "getting by with injections".

Steffen and Schulte are out with injuries. Chris Brady is the replacement.

Ream and Zawadski both appear to have picked up injuries.

I love Ream, but honestly neither of those 2 belonged on this roster. I don't think the final GC roster is due until sometime next week so if those 2 are going to be out there's still time to replace them (Paxten for one should be called in).
Also Jedi had knee surgery yesterday so at least his missing out was legit

Folarin Balogun (ankle), Sean Zawadski (knee), and DeJuan Jones (lower body no more details yet) are out of the summer roster.
Paxten Aaronson, Nathan Harriel, and Walker Zimmerman are in.

Dest is out for fitness reasons. Fml. Also apparently Tolkin was a sneaky addition?
Interesting side note:
Brenden and Paxten Aaronson, Quinn Sullivan, Jack McGlynn, Nate Harriel, Mark McKenzie, and Matt Freese all come from the Philly academy.

I still can't believe this is our roster heading into the last competitive games before the biggest summer in our history.
I hope they prove us wrong, but I never thought I'd be less excited for anything post Gregggggggg

Guess we are looking at a Miles Robinson at RB situation. Gross.
