as the nation’s best high school player at his position a year ago.
Interesting story on his playing in Europe. New York Times article

“I’ve gotten paid on time once this year,” Jennings said in an e-mail message. “They treat me like I’m a little kid. They don’t see me as a man. If you get on a good team, you might not play a lot. Some nights you’ll play a lot; some nights you won’t play at all. That’s just how it is.”

it also states that his grades were not good enough to get into college...

That's what he gets for going to Europe

i'm pretty sure he's going to be happier making $1.2M this year as opposed to playing JUCO ball for free

his options were kind of limited, his grades were shite.

which is why he's in europe..what other options would he have had, other than to sit for a year? sounds to me like playing in europe may help him in the long run, and he's making some very nice money, if he gets paid.
ETA: JUCO, that's right.

I thought it was 17 or according to GPA like if you have a higher GPA you can make a lower score, not real sure though, shite's changed since I was in school.........and I've seen dudes who struggled for a 15.

Yeah. he was originally commited to SC, then to Arizona. He and Budinger would have been a scary gaurd combo. Glad he was too dumb. Getting paid and being in the league next year can't be too bad a deal

An N.B.A. assistant coach who has been to Europe and has watched Jennings play said his potential draft standing had not been harmed.
I've heard otherwise... They say he wont be a lottery pick anymore.

NBADraft.net still has him listed in the top 5. While they totally dropped the ball and overrated guys like Pavel Podkolzine a few years ago, they are still a pretty reliable site.
I bet Jennings hasn't had too much of an issue with collecting his money. Maybe he gets paid a week or two late, but he also has a rent-free apartment and probably a personal driver (at least for practices). I also think that the mentality of the coaches in the European leagues is much closer to the mentality of NBA coaches, so he is better prepared than guys who played a year of college ball with rah-rah guys like Roy Williams.

What would you have advised him to do?

who is they?
hes not getting any worse over there receiving professional coaching and practicing with/playing against professional players, some of them former nba players themselves.
not to mention hes being exposed to life as a professional basketball player and wont have nearly as much trouble adjusting to the life of an nba player.

2 things
1. he's being taught pro defense. something he wouldn't be taught in the NBA
2. he's seen as a "failure" because he's not lighting it up offensively. the problem is Europeans run a lot of zones, and a 6-2 driver isn't going to have a lot of success against it. he's being forced to learn how to do more on offense.
