Thank you for doing the work of the lazy OP

Oregon really got ratfricked.

And Penn state got gifted the easiest road imaginable and still couldn’t make it there.

It isn’t talked about enough how Texas was gift wrapped the easiest schedule in the SEC, Georgia losing their starting quarterback at halftime in the SEC Championship, the easiest playoff path, probably the worst call of the season to sneak them past a pretty mediocre Big 12 and they have absolutely nothing to show for it.

If this model was in place last year, why would UGA and Texas even play starters in the SEC championship?

Yeah, Penn State and Texas got cake draws. At least Texas got to the semis and gave OSU a good game.

Same could be asked about Oregon and Penn State.

If we are using that logic, so did Penn state. They got to the semis and gave ND a good game.

Conference Championship Games need to die.

Bc despite Ohio State winning it all last year, UGA is still the SEC Champion.
I get it that people only think “national champs” matter, but it still means something. Could say the same for Oregon last year
Sure, they’d rather be national champs (I’m sure Ohio State doesn’t care about B10 champs at all) but they have more to celebrate than Texas does

8 teams with 5 spots for conference champs plus 3 at-large spots keeps high stakes in conference championship games and keeps undeserving 9-3 teams that finished 4th and 5th in their conference out.

Well it never will. If anything, they’ll expand to 16.

Agreed. But those days are long gone.
I'm sorry but four teams was perfect. 6 max.
With 4-6 teams when you were debating on who was in or left out you were at least debating teams that could actually have a shot at winning it all. The 12th ranked team in the country is honestly irrelevant and is never going to win the title. It'll be even worse when they move to 16.

Some point in the near future we won't have conference championship games.

Last season the 5th and 6th ranked teams played for the championship.

If I were king of college football:
(1) Bowls moved to start of season as season kick off games - the only way to make non-NY6 Bowls relevant again.
(2) All Conferences play similar regular season schedules - 12 games with 10 Conference games and 2 OOC games (1 Power 4 and 1 Cupcake).
(3) Eliminate Conference Championship Games. Regular Season Champs get the autobid to the playoff. Have to increase # of Regular Season Conference games (see #2) to legitimize Regular Season Champion. Conferences are just too big now and will need a larger pool of Regular Season games to determine Champion to try and level out scheduling.
(4) 16 Team Playoff - Rounds 1 and 2 on college campuses. Final 4 plays out just like the original CFP with the Final Four and Championship at the NY6 Bowls.

Interesting idea. Think I like it.

I mean why leave out this part?

Six was fine. I preferred four. If it was still four last year I'd say tough luck for OSU, don't lose two games in the regular season.
