Staying in Riviera Maya and want to play at least once while I'm there. Where should I play? Not play? Club rentals available? Any advice is much appreciated.

PGA Riviera Maya (Tulum Country Club)
You won't be disappointed. Absolutely stunning beauty and excellent conditions.
Pretty sure they just had the Korn Ferry Tour out there a few weeks back.

Mayakoba or Playa Mujeres
These are the only two I've played and they are both pretty quiet but very well maintained. TBH, golf in Cancun is not the best. I think most courses only have 1 or 2 holes on the water and its either the green or tee box.

Thanks guys. Probably do the PGA course then.
Well that's a little disappointing.

Fact! Water front is for the tourists. You’re going to play golf in the jungle. Honestly, don’t play. Go get a couple’s massage and play when you get home

DO NOT PLAY Cancun Country Club; very mediocre course.

Very fun course, highly recommend. Margs are strong so don't expect a great score

Played Moon Palace several times last year. Try and play the Lakes course. Played Gran Coyote last week and not worth the $250 green fee plus it was hot as hell.

I second this. The course amenities are really nice as well.
Bev cart prices were great which I was surprised to see after walking into that proshop.
Nice bar right next to the driving range and on the turn. Looked liked they had a pizza oven going as well.
Thought the greens fees were pretty steep but the course was in excellent condition.

Bro, I told you to ply Mayakoba
although the ladies played their last week so you probably couldn’t get on.
You have the same reaction as the guys I played with about Grand Coyote. Don’t make this mistake OP. It’s top notch and barely more expensive.

UPDATE:
Played El Camaleón Golf Course at Mayakoba. Thought it was slightly overpriced at $300 green fee + $80 club rental + $40 glove + $25 sleeve of Pro V1X x's 2...
Conditions were excellent though. Tour-level fairways where you didn't need to even nudge the ball for a nicer lie.
Greens were very very nice, though a tad slower than I'd have liked. Still rolled what seemed like an 7-8. Very smooth and firm-ish. Hardly left a ball mark but stopped reasonably well on approaches.
You had to be almost on top of your ball to find it in the rough. It didn't look that penalizing but when you dropped a ball in it, it wasn't staying on top. Clubhouse was mint, great bar area.
Shot 40/42 from the blues (6500yds). Only birdied one hole (#10). Par 3, 175yds. Hit 6i that never left the flag. Halfway there I was thinking don't you dare go in. I'm by myself...lol. Landed 3ft short and just left. One-hopped and spun back to a foot and a half. Taaaappp it in.
Rental clubs were nice. Full set of PXG 0311 XP Gen6. 4i-Gap, 56 and 60* wedges. Maybe a 19* hybrid(?), 3w and Black Ops driver.
Would recommend if you're on vacation and want to check a tour stop off your list of places to play. Would not recommend if dropping 5 bones on golf at a course not named Pebble bothers you.
