Steve McQueen says very little in this movie and it works. I watched it when I was younger and thought it was boring. I can respect the car chases more now knowing what went into filming them.
I appreciate Bisset then and now even though her role is miniscule. I couldn't tell you what the plot is.
Alamy must've bought every damn picture from this movie because their watermark is everywhere when I searched

One of the best chase scenes of all time. 10 minutes of nothing but the revving of the engines and the tires spinning. Highly recommend. Also, I have seen a lot of older films so I am definitely interested in this. Do you mean to keep it one film per thread?

Bullitt is an awesome movie. I think it's the better of the two movies based on Dave Toschi, but Dirty Harry is also awesome.

I presume you mean Bullitt.
Love "old" movies
Casablanca
Twelve O'clock High
Sands of Iwo Jima
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
Philadelphia Story

every 2 weeks someone suggest a great older film
The thread title is inexact,, suggestion welcome
I started this ONE,, with Bullit as the movie
In two weeks time you nominate the next classic film and then two weeks after that you can name who nominates the next and we'll do that based upon the participation in the thread
merit based

I love this idea. Bullitt is a great one of the early “new Hollywood” movies and one of the classic car chases.

A lot of the movies I enjoyed back then probably won't hold up. The effects weren't great back then.
Race with the Devil
Food of the Gods
Last House on the Left
The Town That Dreaded Sundown

Yeah I'd probably put it as my favorite chase scene.
Sticking with the Steve McQueen theme I'll recommend Junior Bonner from famed director Sam Peckinpah. To me it's Steve's most underrated movie.

He also directed Steve in The Getaway if you're looking for another crime movie with Steve after watching Bullitt.

I almost chose The Apartment
Lemmon, McClain,,
then I was in a Blck and White mood and thought Kurosaws Stray Dog
but those might be too unknown
and Lawrence of my fav
too well known
I want newbies to have a film to watch
I will admit that the Casablanca thread is what inspired this

Maybe just general discussion of what classic films we might have watched in the two weeks span? If you've watched a classic, mention it, and go from there.

You can't go wrong with either of those.
I love the idea of talking about classic movies. It's why I quit posting here for a number of years is cause nobody else other than Kafka was every interested in talking about classic movies.

Shot on location in San Francisco makes great chase scenes. The '68 Ford Mustang Fastback is badass and a character in and of itself. Kind of reminds me of Mad Max car twenty years later. Robert Vaughn is perfect as the Senator as is Simon Oakland as Bullitt's boss (Robert Duvall and Norman Fell w/ minor roles):

Very good movie. Not as good as the original story but a very good adaption. One of the better westerns of the 60's, which was a very strong decade for westerns.

Race with the Devil is a gem. What an interesting movie and I love Warren Oates in anything. He elevated the films he was in, Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia, Ride The High Country, The Wild Bunch, Two lane blacktop, The Border, etc.
Back to McQueen, yes Bullitt was excellent. My favorite of his will always be Papillion.

Well sticking with the Steve McQueen theme director John Struges directed steve a few years after the Magnificent Seven in The Great Escape.
