My house has 2 speakers installed on the patio and pre wired to the laundry room. I just want to be able to play music through these speakers versus an Amazon echo. I know I need to install a receiver in my laundry room where the wires terminate but I’m trying to understand the simplest solution.

Added bonus would be to also play TV sound through outdoor speakers (obviously not at the same time). I’m afraid this means running an hdmi from my tv to the receiver but I’m seeing these wireless hdmi receivers and transmitters. I don’t know anything about them so not sure if they are any good.

Any simple solutions are welcomed. Bonus points to not have to spend time in the attic to get it installed.

Not cheap at $300 but here is a perfect solution. It’ll take an optical line from your TV which is best if the distance is long. AirPlay is built in.
Amazon
You can avoid running tv wire if it is within Bluetooth range. There are other options also but they can be painful.

You asked for simplest...
Ignore the fact that they're there at all. Consider the fact that whoever installed them probably paid less than $125 for the pair.

Put Echo devices on your patio. Wipe them off with a microfiber cloth when they get dusty. Or, bring them inside if you won't be outside for more than a week. I left two Sonos speakers on my patio for years and never had a problem.

Get a $100 sound bar to deal with the TV problem.

The house I live in now was wired like this. Speakers everywhere. I bought a plain stereo receiver and attached a chromecast audio. Works brilliantly and despite my constant searching for a replacement, I have not seen a good reason to change.

Now, there's receivers with these type things built in. Just choose your platform. Someone already mentioned Wiim, which would be high on my list now. If I were doing it today though, I would probably buy one of the Onkyos with chromecast built in.

can attest. i had a stereo pair of play 1s mounted up high and sat a 'puck' echo dot on top of one of them so i could tell it what music to play or turn the volume up or down from the pool.

worked great. at night in the dark i loved seeing the light from the litle blue ring light up so i could tell alexa was listening to me since you cuoldn't see the dot; it blended right in w/ the speaker.

The Wiim suggestion was mainly because he said it was going in the laundry room. A big receiver or even a little multi device solution like hub+class D amp would definitely not fly in my laundry room. It’s not my space.

At the core of my simplistic suggestion is the WAF. Wife Acceptance Factor.
"Hey babe, all you need to do is change the input, hit the macro button on the multi function home remote to change the HDMI input and speaker outputs, select your source..." That is low WAF.

I think the Wiim you just select from whatever app your music is on. Or select headphones from right in the front of the TV menu. My wife is fine with tech but it better not be bulky or ugly.

Thanks for all of the suggestion. The WiiM seems like a great solution for my scenario. I am currently doing the echo dot and it’s just not quite cutting it.

Now I need to test these preinstalled speakers before I start purchasing equipment to power it.

That’s why you buy Amazon and use the return policy if you don’t like it.

In our system, all she has to do is say, "Hey Google, play music on Den Speaker."

I have a Yamaha receiver which has MusicCast built in. It sometimes messes up b/c I have 3 receivers running 5 zones and sometimes when I try to get more than 1 zone playing it messes up. But with 1 zone I doubt you'd have a problem.

In our patio we have a semi cheap Pyle amplifier with blue tooth. Either hook to a phone our Alexa. Great sitting in the pool and calling out songs.

Sonos Amp if you already have the speakers there.

Sonos Amp

-2.5 the price
-Fewer connectivity options
-Stuck with wired TV
-Requires additional config for wired auto sense
On the other hand, I guess the supply on the Sonos is 48v instead of 36v(absolutely not necessary here). Sonos prob has the same outstanding 3255 chip as the Wiim. If you want to expand the system into the house, Sonos can offer simpler, already-amplified options, but not necessarily better and certainly not more affordable. You can always slap a $90 Wiim mini and a $1 3116 (or $20 3255) amp onto any indoor speaker, even the great bookshelf varieties of years past. The Wiim mini already has a setting for summed mono output because it’s a fantastic product.
