Seriously, why? Of all the useless wars, that was #1. Literally nothing to do with the US but people in the US let LBJ murder their sons for it. Was the propaganda on another level back then?

Kind of off topic but there is a new documentary on Netflix about Vietnam that looks awesome. I can’t wait to sit down and watch the series one rainy shitty weather weekend

It was a front on our war against the USSR and the spread of communism. Just a continuation of Korea which was a continuation of WWII.

There were tons of protests. What do you expect them to do?

There was more blind trust of our government back then.

Top down media was most powerful under the three puppet media sources of the time. The only way they made anyone think they were separate from the government was when the CIA used them to take down Nixon. There's our version of the government, and the other one that's actually in charge and will kill presidents and take them out and do pandemics and steal elections we need to be worrying about.

The OP has never looked into the politics of the time I guess. Like all wars, Vietnam has been boiled down into talking points, mostly from people who have only bit of anti-war slogans to base their views on.

Watched the 9/11 Hunt for Binladen one earlier. The Obama/netflix influence def showed at the end. Was interesting to see them throw Biden under the bus though as the only one opposing to go into Pakistan. I assume Joe probably got 10% from them back then too. Most of the ppl didn’t seem very smart and did slightly expose the CIA with a few Freudian slips.

When the income tax was ratified as constitutional, we had a revenue source for endless wars.

In a nutshell. The American war machine used the spread to communism to justify its involvement. The draft was an order. The only way to avoid it was medically, conscientious objector (to serve non combat duty) or to leave the country,
