It is very common to hear good leaders say they take responsibility for things that they have little control over. You can teach and practice until the cows come home. At some point, the people under you have to execute whatever the game plan is.

Like I said…at this level…it’s on the coaches, ALWAYS
If you want to talk about a team of 12U all stars vs a bad league team, then sure, coaching may not be able to overcome it.
But it’s easy to see who has never had to be a leader in this thread
