I was thinking the same thing. That would be a tough team for anyone to beat with simply the Pistol and Shaq.

Put together and all time North Carolina basketball team, and it would beat the shite out of any other school.

I doubt that, as plenty of other people. LINK

college Shaq would dominate any historic college center in the post. College Shaq

nobody could stop college Chris Jackson and Pistol Pete at the same time with Shaq down low.
College Pete Maravich Chris Jackson

The two forward positions really wouldn't matter and I could name a slew of LSU forwards that played tough D and would fit perfectly with the other 3.

No other 5 in COLLEGE history would beat them.

So stop talking about players NBA careers. Idiots saying that it was Dean Smith that held Jordan down in college. Jordan just was NOT that great of a shooter or defender in college and Jordan couldn't stop Abdul-Rauf in the pros anyway let alone the Pistol. Saying Dean Smith 'held jordan down' in college is just as legit as me saying Chris Jackson's coach held him down in the pros.

LSU's all-time starting 5 would beat any other schools in history. Point Blank.

LSU

The homer-ism of this thread is blinding 90% of the posts.

his team wouldn't work well with Pete jacking up shots. No one else would get enough touches to make an impact.

You are aware that Pistol Pete is one of the SEC's all-time assist leaders, right? Just making sure

I think 15 pts back in the early 80s playing for UNC is like 25+ pts in today's game. There was no shot clock and UNC would pull out the "four corners" after getting almost any lead. Averaging 15 pts in that era for that team with that coach is amazing.

Worthy > Tyler

Ive watched both in college. First of all, today's college game is so watered down it's really sad. Tyler doesn't face the same type of competition in college that the other 2 faced. Im sure he'll do OK in the NBA, but not even close to what he's doing in college.

jmho.

Yeah, I wouldn't put Duke in there. Good college basketball players, but not so much in the league. I'd also replace Rudy with Brandon Bass or someone bigger than him. Rudy was good, but look at Bass in the league downkin all over people.

Imagine if Tyrus would have stayed a few more years at LSU. As a freshman he was changing games simply with his defense. He would be in the top ten for LSU imo.

Yeah, Tyrus is an awesome athlete. I went with Bass for size and physicallity. He can shoot too. I can't think of a 4 I'd rather put on the floor from the mid 80's to present.

Actually, ESPN did a mock tourney a few years back and LSU's all-time team consisted of those 5 guys along with John Williams And Stanley Roberts. The Tigers mad it to the Mock final 4 and were nipped at the buzzer by the North Carolina team in the semi-finals. The finals had UCLA against UNC. Don't remember who won that one. Point is the computer they used had some love for the Tigers as they blew out several teams before getting nipped by Jordan's bunch.

It was SI and the other final four team was University of Houston with Elvin Hayes, Hakeen, Clyde Drexler, Don Chaney and Otis birsong. Houston and LSU are the only 2 programs that had 3 players each on the NBA TOP 50 all-time list.

Uh, no the one I saw was ESPN. Didn't see the one in SI but it sounds much the same.

I'm at a party the other night and my buddy James, a tried and blue Tar Heel, comes up to me (he's been reading a little Page 2, it seems) and says, "I just don't see how Carolina can lose to UCLA." We're in the kitchen and he's between me and a piece of chocolate mousse delight, so I humor him: "Yeah, they present problems." He's talking about foot speed and shooting range, about McAdoo taking the game out beyond Walton's comfort zone, about a roster full of players who can create their own shot. "And all that," he says, "is before we get to the fact that their two-guard is the greatest player in NBA history."

No, he wouldn't.

Russell would frustrate the hell out of him with his defense alone.

Chamberlain would match him with strength and score against him at will.

Hakeem's athleticism would win out.

Duncan I'm not sure but I'd pay to see it.

Walton would school him. That guy was a complete center.

Kareem and Hayes would more than hold their own.

This is college AND pros. Those guys are the peak of the centers.

Shaq should and will be in the NBA Hall of Fame but he's in the list of great centers in college and the pros. He isn't "the one" in either.

VABuckeye: I know nothing including if the game were played would change your mind so I don't give a rat's arse what you think. Shaq would dominate that entire list in the paint. Wilt gave up 35 pounds to Shaq along with a ton of strength. All were too skinny and Wilt wasn't near as athletic and agile as Shaq was in college. I know you hate to admit it, but you couldn't guard Pete, Chris, and Shaq all at the same time effectively. They would light any team's arse on fire.

Pete would have ANY guards tongue hanging out after 15 minutes of play.
