How do we feel about Rory at PGA Championship?

2nd best odds to win at +480 (Scottie is +450)

I’m cautious because it took him 11 years to win his 5th major, but hard to ignore his success at Quail Hollow

Started looking into it after I heard Speith’s comment about “Rory McIlroy Country Club”.

Rory has won there 4 times (2010, 2015, 2021, 2024). Finished Top 10 in 9 out of 13 tournaments there. Holds the course record (61 in 2015).

Other players who have historically played well there:
Xander, JT, Justin Rose, Homa, Phil, Fowler, Bryson, Reed

I like his odds at +480, he's playing the best golf out of everyone and finally had a major tournament breakthrough.

I picked him to win a major for the first time in 8 years (shameless brag) at the Masters. Just felt like it was his year. I think the stars align even more at the PGA than they did at the Masters. He should probably be the favorite over Scottie.

I feel good about him at the PGA.

I know he took a decade off of winning majors, but his game is in a place where he really could go on of those runs and get to 10 pretty quick.

Rory 2011-2014

Spieth 2015

Tiger 99-2002, 06-08

If he really cured his mental shite at Augusta and goes on a little 3-4 year run where he wins 1 out of 3 majors, he'll be knocking on the door of 10. He arguably has the most complete game right now and seems to be mentally there.

I hope he doesn’t make the cut. He’s an insufferable prick. I’m pullling for Sam, Scottie, Xander and Bryson. Americans no Paddies.

I’d even pull for a Bama a-hole like Thomas to win it over rory.

did you watch his shot on 13? or his shot on 18? Yes I know he hit some good ones in between (great ones actually) but I don't think you can say he fixed his mental problems.

now that said, I think the Masters is a different animal as far as pressure. He could certainly win but recent history has shown Rory is a mental midget. See the finish at Pinehurst as a prime example.

I think this is just a comically bad idiotic take to be blunt. Theres how many players who ever won the grand slam? 7 i think. Only how many are alive? 4? In the history of the game. He wasn’t just trying to win the masters. He was trying to complete the career grand slam. I don’t care how many bad shots he hit, he hit some iconic shots that some people won’t ever be able to hit in a casual round. I can’t sit here and call someone who’s won 20+ times, 5 majors, and a career grand slam winner a fukin “mental midget”.

He’s only missed the cut at quail hollow once. Hell, he’s only missed the cut at PGA Championship once out of 16 times. I wouldn’t count on it

Did you watch him compartmentalize that, step up to the biggest shot of his life, stuff it, and complete the Career Grand Slam?

That's how you possibly "fix" your mental struggles in Majors.

Time will tell, but I don't think I'd be wanting to bet against him too hard for the next 5 years or so. He'll be in the hunt on Sunday more often than not.

My response to that is he so good at golf he can overcome being weak mentally. Kudos to him, took him 10 years to get over snapping it left on 10 at Augusta.

Well, he is a mental midget, so calling him that would be correct

You sound like a woman

You think people have to be broken to think a guy that’s crumbled in many pressure situations the last several years is a mental weakling? And not only in pressure situations, just losing his focus in the middle of rounds and playing like shite. And then admitting he can’t figure out why he keeps doing it

He’s top 10 in strokes gained putting this season. As long as he’s putting like that, I’m picking him to win every week.

Yes, any sane person does

Only someone who can’t control their emotions would say that

Let’s look at the mental midget

At 21 years old he had an epic collapse at the masters. A mere two months later he rebounds and blows the doors off the field to win his first major. You call that mentally small

In 2014 pga championship he was down 3 strokes in the final round and turned on the jets and chased down Phil and Rickie. You call that mentally small

In 2025, after absolute heartbreaks recently at the open, us open(twice), he comes back from some horrific shots to absolutely throw a dart in extra holes to complete a career grand slam for only the 6th time in human history

You call that mentally weak

Do you understand how ridiculous you sound?

Who isn’t a mental midget then? Only Jack I guess….You are an emotional wreck. Your standards would have every golfer ever besides Jack as a mental midget

In literally the hardest mental sport in the entire world he is one of only 6 people to complete the career grand slam, and you call him a mental midget

He should win. He’s the best player and it’s a great track for him. But it’s golf so who knows?

Imagine actively rooting against Rory McIlroy so that you can cheer on boring arse Xander Schauffele for 4 days.
