more than two dozen people were gathered in a barn that had a fighting arena lined with plexiglass and rows of seats for spectating.

quote:

Officials with Homeland Security Investigations said matches were scheduled for later that day, and bets were being placed. Homeland Security said hundreds of chickens were on the property, and those used for fighting were equipped with sharp, bladed spurs.

“In addition to the acts of animal cruelty perpetrated by the operators and encouraged by the participants, underground gambling operations such as these often have ties to other significant crimes, including narcotics violations, money laundering and acts of violence,” ICE HSI New Orleans Special Agent in Charge Eric DeLaune said. “These crimes degrade the safety of our communities, and we are proud to be the ones stopping these illegal operations.” Around 20 people were arrested for an array of charges. Officials said some of those in custody were identified as illegal immigrants.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect the community from the perpetrators of violent crime.

I enjoy attending those for the cheap fried chicken toward the end of the event.

In the early 1970's I went to the Ms coast to watch cock fights one Sunday morning. The place , I believe, was called Cristy's Pony Farm or something like that. Having no idea what to expect, I was in awe. The place was a good sized block bldg. It even had a concession stand and separate rest rooms for men/wommen. Bet there were 100+ cars there. The place even had 2 drag pits off the main pit. The place was an eye opener for a 20 yr old. It also entrenched that I'm a sucker for a grey horse or a spangled bird.

now a days, I did have to ask myself before opening thread if this was a foul tranny/gay thing or a fowl gambling thing.

It can't be that hard to identify the people that raise fighting roosters.

I can drive through rural counties in Alabama on country roads and visibly see roosters tethered to stakes, isolated from other birds with small wooden shelters to house them. You know those are folks raising roosters & selling them off or fighting them.

I participated in one of these once. Well I was going to participate until they asked me where my chicken was. Was quite embarrassing.

Believe I found it on Google maps pretty quickly with that pic from the link. East side Northrup-Cuevas Rd just south of Hwy 53, back behind a large pond. Now time to look on OnX to see who owns the land.
