Got to love the transfer portal. This is becoming a bit of a phenomenon where more and more players inevitably cross paths throughout their careers. You hear and see these stories of player and coaches’ connections during the NFL Draft but I find it intriguing when a game from 2022 can be studied before the 2025 season to scout a current college player competing amongst future and proven NFL talent.
This is the case for LSU’s latest transfer portal get, AJ Haulcy. Before transferring to the University of Houston, Haulcy started his college career at the University of New Mexico in 2022. Low and behold, that very season, the New Mexico Lobos played LSU in Tiger Stadium. LSU came out on top with a 38-0 victory. This was the first time since 2019 LSU gained more than 600 yards total offense and the first-time snice 2018 LSU held and opponent scoreless.
According to LSU stats and info, #24 AJ Haulcy finished with 10 total tackles, 2 solo and 8 assisted.
Haulcy is active. He swarms to the ball and typically found in pursuit if not already in on tackle. Downhill run stopping safety. He can play very physical.
I watched a replay of the game. I listed some time-stamps of plays Haulcy makes with the most notable being at 1:22:18 where Haulcy chases down Jayden Daniels, makes the tackle, and concusses Jayden for the rest of the game. I vividly remember this play and thinking Jayden can’t keep getting hit like that.
I’m excited for Haulcy to get on campus and lace up for his second career game in Death Valley. Should be a very solid player.
8:01 TACKLE
9:20 MISSED TACKLE, TD RUN
17:45 HILTON STREAK, HAULCY COVERS BECH
18:04 COVERAGE PLUS TACKLE
29:52 TACKLE
30:17 DROPS INTO COVERAGE, TACKLE ON QB SCRAMBLE, PREVENTS TD
32:17 BITZ OFF EDGE, FORCES SCRAMBLE
33:22 BLITZ OFF EDGE, FORCES HOLDING CALL
47:30 TACKLE
1:19:52 TACKLE
1:22:18 TACKLE ON QB SCRAMBLE, INJURES JAYDEN FOR GAME
1:23:07 TACKLE IN BOUNDARY
1:32:32 TACKLE
1:33:32 MISSED TACKLE, LONG TD RUN
1:55:10 ASST TACKLE, FORCED FUMBLE

I liked it when players bled purple and gold! Now they all bleed green!

Why are you so mad this is good details here? It's relevant too because even then Haulcy was an active player all over the field. He has obviously grown and got better but LSU is getting a natural instinctive S which it has been quite awhile since we've had one this good. Brooks was a solid S but he wasn't really on Haulcy's level. I don't think we've had one this good since Delpit.
