Random Oscar trivia that I found interesting...

Horror has always been slighted by the Academy for one reason or another. It's a genre that rarely gets taken seriously. One can argue that a horror movie has never won Best Picture though there are those who regard The Silence of the Lambs as horror. Despite the disrespect toward the genre, horror has given us some all-time great films throughout history. Along with that has come some truly great soundtracks composed by some all-time great musicians: Psycho, Halloween, The Amityville Horror, etc.
That all being said, only ONE horror film has ever taken home the Oscar for Original Score and that was for Jerry Goldsmith's work on The Omen.
Try listening to that alone in your house at night. Pretty creepy.

I thought The Exorcist was more deserving than The Sting.

I'm not sure about all that, but I concede it was a great, great film.
For that matter, Alien and The Thing were criminally underrated in their day.

Clown in a Cornfield is being released in theaters next week. I think it might just break the streak for horror at the Oscars.

No reason for anyone do downvote this. It's a valid take. I'd probably still go with The Sting, but The Exorcist is a damn fine film (edgy "I thought it was funny!" opinions can go throw themselves down some stairs).

There was a glut of really good stuff in 1982 that flopped, weren’t appreciated in their time, etc.
The Thing, Tron, and Blade Runner are at the top of the list but more mundane stuff like Annie flopped too.

The version of Blade Runner that was released in 1982 was awful, butchers by the studio and the forced voice over that everyone involved hated. The subsequent Director Cuts especially the Final is the classic
