CertainTeed?

CertainTurd

I know they are made in LA and I prefer to support local, but I am just not a fan of CT. Behind on technology, don't hold up as well in storms, and they discolor/pick up algae quicker than the other major shingle manufacturers.

Of the ones you mentioned, Atlas would be my top pick. They make a fantastic shingle. Also don't think we've ever had a manufacturer defect with an Atlas shingle yet.

I'm sure a CT would be fine, a proper installation is more important, but it's personally just not my favorite. Honestly it's in part to due with everyone in my area installing it and telling homeowners it's the best shingle on the market and you ask them why and the answer is... "Umm, it just is" or "It's made in Shreveport." I'm sorry, that's not a good enough answer.

I love Atlas have been installing it for over 7 years and zero issues besides a problem with the shake shingle on one roof. Certainteed and OC are good shingles but I prefer Atlas

Do you have spray foam under the roof sheathing in your attic?

Certainteed and OC are the only companies I know that will warranty their products with spray foam under the roof deck.

As far as which is better, each of the three mentioned are good. I’d add Malarkey as another great option. Get the cheapest, best looking, impact level 4 of the bunch

Certainteed was the best for a long time. But others have caught up. Never liked dealing with Atlas customer service. OC duration with that sure nail is pretty solid. I just always thought certsinteed weathered wood was just the best color.

Also the last few years I have noticed more spotted sections of shingles. Like the packs have different shades. Not sure if that’s from the factory or retail. Can’t believe the amount of homes they just seem to accept it like that. Definitely always make sure the numbers match on all the packs.

OC has great shingles, competitive price and a good platinum warranty that also warrants installation for a long time if you use a certified OC installer. Installation is usually the issue in roof failures annd most manufacturers don’t warrant that last a few years and last time I looked at Atlas warranty it had a very very limited installation warranty. Same with CT.

Just put on CT when doing my fortified roof last week. No real experience other than to say seems quality from my limited experience so far.

From my experience, it's a good shingle but it is prone to becoming discolored with algae/fungal growth even with the "StreakFighter technology."

As noted above, I would stick with Atlas Pinnacle Pristine, OC Duration, or Malarkey
