Can y’all finally admit that Trump’s wide ranged tariffs were stupid?

All of you so-called conservatives have been backing some of the dumbest, most liberal leanings of this clown show of a presidency. Conservatives do not support tariffs. They support the free market and there’s nothing free market about wide ranging tariffs. Please admit that you were wrong. Bend at the altar of the free market and put away this pipe dream of everything being made in America.

Nope. Don’t own anything like that. Don’t even participate in anything like that. However, I do like to buy products and when Target, Walmart, and other Big box operators showed up and told Trump we’re about to have a bunch of empty shelves, he cratered, realizing the foolishness of his ways. These are not trinkets. They are everything that you dumbasses buy.

It is difficult to say. The claim has been made that many countries have expressed interest in revisiting trade deals. If the claim is true and those, on balance, are more favorable to US manufacturers and consumers then you'd be hard-pressed to call the tariff threats "stupid".
If nothing changes, then yes, it was all folly.

Why are conservatives not in favor of getting tariffs removed from american businesses and products? That seems like a staple of conservative viewpoints.

Its that todays narrative regarding the reason for tariffs? It changes daily.
I thought it was to return mfg.

But Trump‘s wide ranging tariffs are not in response to actual tariffs. They are in response to a trade deficit, and a trade deficit almost exclusively. Look at his dumb formula on how he calculated the so-called “reciprocal“ tariffs. It’s all a bunch of BS. His whole first 2 to 3 months have been nothing but self-inflicted wounds to our economy and our future.

It takes a special kind of retard to see something working and then claim it is not. Damn, you're a dumbass.

Returning manufacturing to the US is a great goal. We don’t need to be held hostage by our enemies for rare earths, microchips or medicine. It is hard to compete with peon wages and no environmental rules.
We have also faced countries making up bs regulations to keep our products out. Honduras imports more pork from the US than the EEC.
You would have been a Tory. Oh this revolution is hard and I can’t trade with England, boo hoo. Because that is exactly what this is, a revolution against the trade barriers against us. Our dear friends to the north had huge tariffs on America agricultural products before Trump even started his second term.
We have been buying other countries cheaper products but they won’t buy ours. Trump is looking to level the playing field and return manufacturing to the US.

I have no issue proclaiming them stupid, if they were.
I remember a story from his first term where some White House aid was trying to dunk on Trump by saying “we’ll be walking through the halls and he’ll have an idea and ask us if we can do it. These things are usually crazy and possibly illegal and we have to tell him no.”
Now, I don’t want every administration to operate like this. I don’t ALWAYS want a Trump-like figure to be what we need. But I remember thinking, “Christ, isn’t this a good thing? The guy is out here trying to do whatever he can to help us at least.”
I don’t get all the “he folded like a bitch!” rhetoric. Especially if he pulls back and things improve. Judging literally everything through the lens of “ha did this make his trying look dumb or not” is ridiculous.

As Trump is reversing course, this is definitely going to be his spin on the situation. He will never admit that this was fool hearty and stupid. He’s simply going to claim victory with some rough outline trade agreements with X number of countries. As we all know, it takes years to actually hammer out trade deals. The spin you’re going to hear is definitely going to be that we got some really great trade deals because of this foolishness, but it’s all a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Only a stupid person would think that what has been done to the USA in the last 50 years could be fixed in 2 months. It will take time and we will experience some pain, but in the long run it will benefit the American citizens.
