And not being able to do anything physical is driving me crazy. At least 6 weeks of no lifting.
I'm used to lifting 3+ times a week, and filling my days with rounds of pullups and pushups. I can't even walk my dog.
This sucks.
I have a follow up with the doctor next week. I'm hoping I can get released to so something physical that doesn't involve lifting like sprints.

...like sprints? like "sprint" sprints?

Ok. Maybe not my best idea. But loafing around and having to ask people to pick things up for me is driving me batty.

Understood, but you're not loafing around, you're "recovering" and if you screw around you may be asking people to pick things up for you for 6 months instead of just 6 weeks. That's what I'm thinking. I don't know how you sprint, but when I do it, it's explosive and violent. I'm not sure exactly what kind of hernia you had, but I would think flatland walking sounds more like it for week #1 to me.
But I'm not a medical doctor, I'm a denim doctor, and you are not a pair of jorts so what do I know? It just "sounds" like a bad idea.

As someone who had hernia surgery, I can almost guarantee he wants you to do nothing for 6 weeks. My doc was really adamant about that.

I lift 5-6 days a week and hernia surgery in 2021 about killed me in that aspect. I was able to get back on the treadmill after 2 weeks, with incline walk and a light jog. I did start lifting 4 weeks after, but light, and i mean LIGHT. Benching 15 lb dumbbells just to get the blood flowing. You will absolutely feel the pull in that area even with 15 lb dumbbells. Just take it slow and listen to your doc, you'll be back to your old self in no time. It just takes a few weeks of discipline.

Ok ok ok. I get it, and I know I should really be doing anything too physical.
Though this evening I'm going to walk with my wife and dog for a while. I think that'll be ok.

The recovery is key. I had a hernia surgery about ten years ago. It felt like I was tearing the mesh for six months after starting to lift again. Once you have one, you are more susceptible to having another. The six weeks is a good rule of thumb with some light work in there. I agree with the others when they say even light weight makes you feel like you are pulling the injury apart when you start back.

I had that surgery on 2/11. I hadn't lifted for 2-3 months prior and gained some weight. Didn't lift for 4 weeks after and started back on a 5x5 deal like a beginner in March. That and run.walk.run. Just progress slow and dont worry about it.
I skipped a few weight increases and at about 3 months out I'm back to decent workouts.

Forearm curls?
Walking and tons of protein with limited carbs should treat you well
