Can someone wake him up please. He needs a slump buster, some zyns, and a boot shine.

He's always struggled against SEC pitching

Good pitching makes him struggle. The MLB would destroy him

What’s so funny about that?
The dude Ks more than any starting LSU hitter I’ve seen in a while against good pitching.

That its just wrong. He had an OPS of 985 in sec play last season. I know you probably dont know this, but thats a pretty above average number

It’s in his head, he’s been patient and letting the ball travel, hitting it to right all season. Now, he’s early and late, so need to recalibrate. Something has changed, and I don’t think it’s the pitching level, but will need him to turn this around to make any run…

I dont think he sucks against SEC pitching or anything, but he is a superhuman against mid-week and weaker early season series pitching and he’s pretty average at times and slumps against good pitching which is where the contrast is coming from IMO. He just goes off against the Nicholls States of the world all game, every game and it would be nice if he showed up with that energy more consistently when it really matters

Its not an energy, its just harder to hit great pitching

I wouldn’t go that far. While he didn’t hit for a great average last year (.277), he did hit for power, as evidenced by his .580 slugging %. This year, the average is not much different (.266), but he’s turned into a singles hitter, slugging .344.

He needs to shave the Travinski stache

Which bears the question, why does Jay keep him batting in the 2 slot?
Why have a guy hitting .266 2nd???

To be fair, there aren’t very many higher than that in SEC play.

Chris Stanfield .370
Derek Curiel .333
Michael Braswell III .320
Luis Hernandez .302
Daniel Dickinson .294
Our best hitters for average in SEC play only.
The two guys (Stanfield & Braswell) that most on this board think can’t hit, have 2 of the 3 best averages in league only play.

He doesn’t need to be in the 2 hole. Move him down and maybe the pressure will lessen.

Pitchers have learned to pitch him in. He gets jammed up a lot and struggles to get the barrel to anything inside
The most disappointing thing is the swing and miss in conference play. He’s gotten some good fastballs over the plate in fastball counts but he’s simply been unable to make pitchers pay unfortunately. Many times he whiffs completely and doesn’t even get a piece.
For a guy with his experience and prowess at the plate, he does not seem to have a lot of confidence. Easy for pitchers to get into his head and then he starts guessing on pitches.

It appears to me that his pitch selection is so poor it makes it much more difficult to make good contact. It seems he swings at pitches up and out and gets jammed on pitches up and in. He also often swings at pitches low in and out. He’s also missing fastballs down the middle. I think that about covers it. To me it used to look like he went to bat wondering how far he was gonna hit but now seems to lack confidence which is certainly understandable considering his recent struggles. Let’s hope he gets back to his old self soon as he is such an important piece of our offense which seems to be struggling with the timely hit.

Yeah he has to show more confidence and trust his experience and abilities. He's supposed to be a leader, it’s the young players that should have confidence growing pains. But what do they think when they see him up there looking bewildered? Horrible optics.
If I’m a pitching coach I would never pitch him on the outter third. He's actually gotten to where he sees that part of the plate the best. He just doesn’t get to anything inside anymore it seems. Usually if he makes contact it’s a jam shot that he shards up in he air for an easy out
