Elon Musk said Thursday that the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency expects to cut around $150B for fiscal 2026, down from his projection of nearly $1T.

Seeking Alpha source

Remember when he said 2T and everyone would get 5K dollar checks...

Now they are thinking 150B through Oct 26

That is a major correction. We might have to be happy with it being done on principal

Well considering every time they did something massive it was met by pushback from the courts this makes sense.

I mean 150B if he gets there is not an insignificant amount of money. It just he made so much outlandish claims about waste and fraud for him to come back to this number makes you know they were shite posting about it.

Obviously this puts a damper on the tax cuts, so cuts will have to come form elsewhere.

It sucks that the things responsible for most of our deficit (Medicaid, Medicare, and ss) are things politically untouchable.

I have no clue what will happen in 2033 when the social security trust fund runs out and legally mandates 17% cuts to monthly checks kicks in.

We could save a *ton* of money by ending Medicaid coverage for the millions of Americans who have the income to afford private coverage

Elon is the king of over promising and under delivering.

That’s not debatable.

The difference between him and everyone else is that his promises are so outlandish that his under delivering is still a lot more than anyone else does.

No budget has been reduced. In fact, the new proposed budget, continues to spend even MORE.

Because he made a projection before he understood anything.

It's 7.5% of one year's budget deficit. It's all fine and good, but it's pissing into the wind.

That’s a meaningful chunk of the budget when the biggest pieces cannot be touched.

The problem is that it just isn’t politically possible at this point to touch the biggest drivers of our deficits.

I honestly think we will see politicians killed if they do a brave thing and reform ss or raise retirement age.
