My son and his group came across this one this morning during one of their forestry field labs. Personally never seen one in all my years of tromping around the woods.
Shout to TigrrrDad as I know he’d be posting kiss pics and selfies with it lol.

Damn, that is a big snake! I believe I would have probably had a heart attack right there!

Really cool snakes. I’ve only seen one in the wild and I’m 62.

Worked in South Texas a lifetime ago it seems. Massive ones (not sure if they were eastern indigos or what - but they were blue/indigo) would fall into trenches. I'd be scared shitless if one of those things rolled up on me.

The ones in South Texas are a subspecies of the Eastern Indigo. I see them every year on my property, about this time of year. The biggest one I had was every bit of 8' long. I also don't see many rattlesnakes on my property.

Awesome. A few years ago I was the first one to document one in our county. Was actually the 3rd one I’d ever seen. It was eating another non venomous snake. Talked to the biologist for an hour.

He said it was the most docile snake ever. Didn’t take offense to being handled by multiple people, though I’m not sure if that’s against state law due to their endangered designation

Awesome! I just missed out on my Everglades trip at the end of March. I was on my favorite trail on that Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday…and someone got an Eastern Indigo on that Saturday. I got 105 snakes of 12 species, but I would’ve traded them all for that 1 indigo!
