The overseas gross is from 75 markets (Japan and Korea launch later) which drew the best start for Hollywood in 2025 so far. Minecraft also logged the 2nd biggest bow for a videogame adaptation, behind only last year’s Super Mario Bros Movie.
OveraIl, in Europe, this is the biggest opening of 2025, the 2nd biggest video game adaptation opening (behind Mario by 6%), the biggest opening ever for Jason Momoa and the 2nd best for Jack Black.
The UK totally dug in to Minecraft, with a huge $19.9M and the biggest opening ever for Black and Momoa. In China: now that phenom Ne Zha 2 has started to settle, Minecraft unexpectedly ran the weekend – besting new local titles (which I admittedly thought might be bigger). The weekend there was $14.5M. at No. 1 across all three days. Jury is out on what this means going forward.
Other notable areas include the Nordic region (the game originally hails from Sweden) where Minecraft generated a combined $7M.
The Middle East, where the movie took smart advantage of the Eid holiday earlier in the week, grossed $6.8M through Sunday.
The Top 5 starts this weekend are UK ($19.9M), China ($14.5M), Mexico ($11.2M), Germany ($10.6M) and Australia ($8.3M).

We just finished. Took my kids and Daughter's friend.
It was a fun movie with no bs or preaching. I didn't get some of the jokes or cameos but they did and explained them.
I love seeing my kids joyful. I've heard "chicken jockey" 100 times today

Just an fyi, there is a decent pirated version floating around online. I used one of the pirate sites to stream it for my little guy.
I have no knowledge of the minecraft world but my 8 year old lost his mind. He made sure I knew all the names of the weird characters.

It’s the most fun I’ve had in a theater in a long time. My kids loved it and we’ve been singing lava chicken all afternoon. It’s like a PG version of pick of destiny.

Same. I havent been to a sold out movie in 25+ years. This was sold out and every kid was wearing Minecraft or had some stuffed animal, blanket, toy, etc with them. When ever a minecraft "mob" appeared on screen, the entire kid population of the audience would scream out the name and what should be done. The creeper scenes put the kids into a panic. It was an incredible movie to go to with kids. We plan on seeing it multiple times in theater.

I honestly can't believe anyone went to see Snow White. It just looks so damn bad. Not even counting the main character, I mean Gal Gadot's wooden arse acting, the awful looking dwarves, the dull visuals.

minecraft made more in a day and a half domestically than Snow white will make its entire run on 4200 screens domestically.
