Which is rediculous since I can teach her drivng.

I am teaching our daughter. She is doing very good. Not ready to be turned loose yet but doing very good. Her mama has tried....not good. Both of them told me in no uncertain terms that it was my fricking job LOL.....

I don't have a direct answer to the OP's question but have noticed a big increase in vehicles that have stickers on them saying "student driver please be patient with me" and suspect that the majority of those are not actually students but people trying to get leniency for their shitty driving.

I think I paid $450 for my kids. Good luck getting them to actually schedule driving hours tho. I had to call the state on 2 different driving schools about that.

Pretty sure when I took it in Texas in 1987 it was free. I don't think my mom would have paid for it.

I think we were supposed to drive for 8 hours or something like that afterwards, but I have been driving since I was about 12 or 13 and was pretty good, so the instructor said after about 30 minutes that I was good to go.

When I was in school in the 80's our PE coaches taught it. No longer done by schools.

Didnt pay for private instruction either of my kids. Both started driving at the farm around 8-9. Tight roads through the pines and having to do a 3 pt turn without hitting a tree was learned early.

Both can drive a stick. Neither has had an at fault accident (daughter, no pics, had someone hit her when it was icy a few years ago.

Nothing beats experience. If you have a wide open place and a junk car that is the best way to teach them.

I'm confused by this thread and the responses. Driver Ed didn't have an extra cost associated with it when I was in high school in the early-mid 80s. You signed up you junior or senior year, you spent an hour a day in class the first couple of weeks, then you went to study hall during that hour for the remainder of the term if you weren't one of the three going out with the teacher and cruising through town, driving a little bit on the interstate, and sometimes a bit of exploration along old, forgotten county roads.

The only cost associated with it was pocket money to bribe the teacher into letting you be in the group of three for the day. That was always good for a drive thru at McDonalds or Rax.

Same here. Used a private service. Online course, 1 in person practice test, actual in person test at private facility, 5 hours of driving with instructor and appt at DMV to take his pic and pick up temp license until perm arrived in the mail.

Worth every penny.
