Error on the play, led to a 4 run 8th inning for Baltimore

This won't be a popular opinion, but Boston was CRAZY to give Bregman that contract. His best days are behind him, and have been for awhile.

The game's a little tougher when you don't know what pitch is coming.

It's a three year contract, and Raffy is showing why even big contracts to young talent can look bad for stretches.

Even if he regressed to a league average hitter, he’s still a gold glove defender and a veteran who has won multiple titles and can teach a very young team. It’s worth it for Boston

Over the last 3 seasons, Bregman is averaging 25 homeruns and almost 90 RBI, plus he just won a Gold Glove last season. You can argue Boston didn't need a third baseman since they still have Devers, but to say Bregman's best days are long gone is a stretch.

Second statement is a tired narrative, and I would argue that contract is somewhere in between neutral and club friendly. That play yesterday just illustrates what they are getting.

A. It was a day game.
B. Boston's other 3B (Devers) is currently mired in an 0-19 slump w/ 15 Ks.
C. Boston's other 3B doesn't even lay leather on that play.
D. You can make the argument that the error should have gone on the 2B (Campbell) who crossed up his footwork and failed to extend to make the catch.
E. No responsibility on the Boston bullpen who imploded?

He absolutely knows what pitch is coming. Alex Cora was the mastermind behind the scheme. That's probably why Bregman went to Boston

As an Astros fan since the 80’s I’ll tell you Bregman is my 2nd favorite Astro behind Altuve. Breggys value for the Astros now was his leadership and defense. His 2019 season is not going to happen again. He’s now probably a top 10 offensive 3B compared to top 5 a few years ago. Paying him top money for a 3B is an overpay.

Carlos Beltran was the one to bring the sign stealing scheme over. He got it when he played with the Yankees.

I mean do you think he'll ever match his 2018 and 2019 seasons again?

Devers is pure trash - with a cancer attitude.

Some of these guys with a lot of strikeouts will be fine this year pitching in the MLB is some of the best it's ever been.

Do I think he can hit 40 like he did in 2019? No. Do I think he can hit 31 again like he did in 2018? Yes, he had 26 last year. If you look at his hit totals, he had 164 in 2019...he had 163 in 2023. 151 last season just for reference. There hasn't been a dramatic drop off like people tend to assume with him for some reason.

I'm as big an LSU guy as it gets, and I'm also a Cub fan, but I'm kinda glad the Cubs lost out on him.

The Cubs were offering nearly $30 mil a year and 4 years with player options after those two years...at which point he'd be 33 almost certainly no team is going to offer him close to that so basically they would have had him for 4 years at that price which would absolutely be an overpay for a solid player but one on the downside of his carreer without question.

No one here wants to hear logic, they just want to call him a cheater and go back to their idiotic lives.

I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion. He definitely wasn’t worth Soto money and I suspect Boras tried to convince him he was. The Boston contract isn’t awful.
