Redistricting there henges on which party controls the Supreme Court. If the dems win, they plan to gerrymander the GOP almost completely out of power. Because the republicans have such a narrow majority in the House of Representatives as it is, this action alone would flip Congress to the Democrats.

So, this random court election in Wisconsin will effectively decide who controls a majority in Congress.

Congressional redistricting. I read a lefty substack by Matthew Yglesias. He has been extolling his readers to contribute to the Democrat in this race ever since the last election.

Why are so many resources and effort spent by our two party system to nefariously influence the population. We need to stop and have a readjustment with where this nation is heading. Half the population hating the other half is just stupid.

Ok, thanks.

But, if they gerrymander to get all GOP out of power, can't the Supreme Court of the Country step in? If it was so easy, wouldn't California, New York, etc gerrymander to make sure their are no GOP representatives in their blue states?

They do. Red land is greater though outside population centers

California basically already does that.

The reason you see redistricting cases wind up at SCOTUS is because of the voting rights act, which was used against SOUTHERN states to force desegregation. Wisconsin isn’t in the south, and their political gerrymandering isn’t done to disadvantage or disenfranchise a protected minority population, so it’s considered kosher by federal law standards.

Media narrative and momentum along with actual hard results and status of Wisconsin in upcoming elections.

I hate that the Polymarket and Kalshi markets are so down for us. Only 15% to 20% chances as of last night.

I would plunk some speculative money into this and hope to sell for 40% or better but I just had to purchase a new roof - down payment ate up all my funds until (at least) after taxes are done. Sad!

If dems win, redistricting will replace 2 republicans in the House with dems.

Most states gerrymander after the census results are reported.

This means 2021-2023 and 2031-2033.

Does Wisconsin do it differently?

I understand the importance of the matter, but is this something that won't even happen for another 6-7 years?

After taking control of the state SC they already redistricted the state legislature districts allowing the dems to pick up a number of seats. They redrew a number of them to include parts of Dane county for example.

They did this while the legislature was close to a super majority for the republicans, so it was solely the governor and the SC that were able to do this.

With a dem governor and SC the legislature has been powerless to enact election laws, as an example, and the SC actually reversed it's decision on ballot boxes after the progs took control.

As the justices have ten year terms I feel the SC election is actually more important than the governor's seat.

*The SC is currently 4-3 progs. If Schimel should win, it would be 4-3 republican completely changing the political landscape of the state for a number of years as the next SC election isn't until 2028 and that is for a prog justice as well.

Thanks for the details.

This election is about a lot more than just gerrymandering in 2031 it seems.

Hopefully everyone gets out to vote.

It is interesting how at both state and federal levels the courts have become so much more powerful in the last 10-20 years.

That has been a key theme worldwide as the Globohomos try to exterminate their political opponents.

SCOTUS has basically washed its hands of even nakedly obvious political gerrymandering.

At this point I'm good with a Hunger Games style selection every four years.
