Columbia University will cede to President Trump’s far-reaching demands in negotiations over $400 million in federal funding he revoked this month, according to a memo from the school to the administration.
Columbia agreed to ban masks, empower 36 campus police officers with new powers to arrest students and appoint a senior vice provost with broad authority to oversee the department of Middle East, South Asian and African Studies as well as the Center for Palestine Studies.
Control of the Middle East department has been a central dispute in negotiations and sparks controversy across campus. Faculty at Columbia and nationwide are expressing deep reservations about letting the federal government dictate how they can operate an academic department. The new vice provost, appointed by Columbia, will review curriculum, nontenure faculty hiring and leadership “to ensure the educational offerings are comprehensive and balanced.”

Columbia has agreed to curtail protests that take over buildings and disrupt classes. The school will require protesters to identify themselves and will review admissions practices to “ensure unbiased admissions processes.”

The school has also said it would move forward with several steps not demanded in the government’s March 13 letter. This includes adopting institutional neutrality—which means they will stop taking official positions on most political issues—and launching programming for their hub in Tel Aviv this spring.
Good. frick 'em. Every university should take the bolded stance.

I seriously doubt that Columbia will cecede 50% of Trump wants, and lie about the rest. That clown in the Oakdale Pen wasn't even enrolled and lived in Columbia subsidized housing. Columbia walks around with a disjointed nose, but in reality has no f'ing clue what's happening there and Barnard.

Did we bend the knee when we wore masks to get on airplanes in 2020? Did we bend the knee when we paid our taxes only to see them fund the Ukraine war? Recognizing the democratically elected politicians is not bending the knee.

You actually think they will implement these policies?

Why is the federal government giving any university 400 million dollars?
Posted on 3/21/25 at 4:55 pm to Big Scrub TX
the fact that any private university could even get one cent from the Federal government is insane to me

Still don't see why they get 400 million tax dollars

Especially a private university with an endowment larger than the City of New York budget

Why does an Ivy League private university receive $400 million in Federal Aid to begin with?
